Evil Dead: The Musical - Do The Necronomicon

While I'm not super into musicals, I think I finally found what I'm after in the Evil Dead musical.  Originally performed in a bar in Toronto back in 2003 before hitting NYC in an off Broadway show in 2006, Evil Dead: The Musical is a wonderfully humorous take on Evil Dead 1 and 2, kinda smushed together.

I haven't watched more than a couple clips yet, but I've tracked down a full performance that I look forward to watching saturday evening.  It's just so over the top looking, there's no way this can't be a good time, right?

I hope you enjoy this, I thought it was a trip.  The lead singer kinda reminds me of the B-52s singer, I wonder if he was involved in at least this performance, ya know?

Prison - Wear Your Skin

Band: Prison
Song: Wear Your Skin
Album: N.G.R.I. (2017)
Genre: Alternative Metal
Bandcamp: prisonfl.bandcamp.com

You know what's cool about Prison?  How open they are about mental illness and the like.  The frontman especially has been working overtime on social media to try and get people to understand that it's not bad to have a problem, but that it's not weak to reach out for help.

Amon Amarth - Guardians Of Asgaard

Band: Amon AMarth
Song: Guardians Of Asgaard
Album: Twilight Of The Thunder God (2008)
Genre: Melodic Death Metal

Well I'm on a bad trend here, but I'll get back with it soon.  Yesterday was a crazy day and I did 20 haircuts (about 8 more than an average day) cause of back to school stuff, so I basically fell asleep after I finished the last late post.

Y'all like steak?  I just made some with an amazing sauce I found from a dude on YouTube.  I might have mentioned him before, but I don't think I have in recent months so here, check out the video.  All his stuff is bomb, so I think you'll like it.

Music wise we're gonna go back to my Metal roots a little bit and share an Amon Amarth tune.  While I'm not familiar with a lot of their older (or newer) albums, I'm a big fan of this one cause it has some of the best songs they've put out (in my opinion) on it.

Band: Broadside
Song: Storyteller
Album: Old Bones (2015)
Genre: Pop Punk

Well say hello to the post that's 21 hours late, hot dang.

I appoligize, I didn't get this posted at work last night, and then I got super busy at work today.  Things happen, eh?

Shoutout to my friend Alex for introducing me to these guys a little while ago when I was first getting into Punk again, hope you like it!

Ty Dolla $ign & Future - Darkside

Artists: Ty Dolla $ign & Future feat. Kiiara
Song: Darkside
Album: Bright: The Album
Genre: R&B
Language: Strong

One of the tracks on Bright's soundtrack that I also loved was Darkside.  While there was a cool Middle East style vibe to Crown, and a forlorn pain to World Gone Mad, Darkside brings it down with a heavy dose of loneliness.  Kiiara does a fantastic job at setting the mood right off the bat, then Ty comes in and keeps it rolling in a strong way with his verse.  I don't know what it is about the line "die for my respect" at 1:18, but it just resonates with me for whatever reason.

I saw a lot of comments talking about how they hate Ty and Future's verses for not rolling with the song, but I'd have to disagree heavily.  I get maybe people who aren't familiar with Future's style disliking his heavy use of autotune, but I think the harsh, heavily processed aspect of his voice really works well here.  And as I already said, Ty keeps the song rolling in a great way.

I honestly would be hard pressed to find a song on this album that I love more than this one I think, though Broken People is great for introducing me to Rag'n'Bone Man.

Camila Cabello & Grey - Crown

Artists: Camila Cabello & Grey
Song: Crown
Album: Bright: The Album
Genre: R&B

You know what, we're gonna hit up the Bright soundtrack for a couple days here.  It's some really good stuff, but more importantly it's a soundtrack with heavy variety in it.

This song has a cool eastern vibe to it that I really get in to, the synth lines are just really tight, ya know?  I enjoy it a lot, such a good song.

Bastille - World Gone Mad

Band: Bastille
Song: World Gone Mad
Album: Bright: The Album
Genre: Indie Pop
Language: Strong

I feel like I mentioned in the past how much I enjoyed the soundtrack for Bright, but that doesn't mean I can't tell you again, right?

I don't really listen to Bastille at all (mostly for lack of familiarity with their music), but I've enjoyed the tunes I've heard from them so far.  Not as many places in my general playlists, but good for public even lists.

Green Day - Are We The Waiting/St. Jimmy

Band: Green Day
Song: Are We The Waiting/St. Jimmy
Album: American Idiot (2004)
Genre: Punk Rock

I don't care what people say, Green Day has some good music.  Like, after putting out this album, it literally became a Rock Opera on Broadway.  That's really cool dude, like, what the heck.

I really only wanted to share the song St. Jimmy (which starts at 2:42), but there's no official version that's separate for me.  I dunno dude, I like the song by itself, I don't feel like it needs the previous track to support it, ya know?  It's got so much energy though, it's a fantastic kick in the pants that I think a lot of people can appreciate.

What is great about the pairing though is the stark contrast between styles.  One is a slow, contemplative song, while the other burns out at an incredible pace.

DEVO - Through Being Cool

Band: DEVO
Song: Through Being Cool
Album: The Traditionalists (1981)
Genre: New Wave

Alice Cooper made me think of a lot of the music I haven't listened to in a while, and it reminded me of Devo.

While I was never much familiar with these guys outside of their Greatest Hits album, I still do enjoy the sound they have going on.  I suppose they're a good example of a band I'm not super familiar with, but I'd call myself a fan, ya know?

I just love the synth stuff, it's fun.

Alice Cooper - The Congregation

Band: Alice Cooper
Song: The Congregation
Album: Welcome 2 My Nightmare (2011)
Genre: Shock Rock

I was recently reminded of Alice Cooper again, and I thought I'd revisit one of my favorite albums, the sequel to Welcome To My Nightmare.

This album was really solid, and this song is one of my favorites.  I got it a while back and it was in my car rotation for a solid year plus.  There's a cool little cameo by Rob Zombie near the end as the tour guide, so listen for that.

Converge - Churches And Jails

Band: Converge
Song: Churches And Jails
Album: Beautiful Ruin (2018)
Genre: Grindcore

Last night I was starting to drag really hard, so I started listening to Converge again.  I'm really only familiar with their Jane Doe album, so  I figured I'd check out some of their new music.  I was pretty pumped last year when they were going to release it, but I didn't actually follow up with anything.

This isn't the new album from last year, but it is an EP that was released a couple months ago though.  I like it a lot, it's a fun, fast paced song.

Wolf King - Greater Power

Band: Wolf King
Song: Greater Power
Album: Loyal To The Soil (2018)
Genre: Blackened Hardcore
Bandcamp: wolfking.bandcamp.com

So firstly, this song makes me thing of Code Orange a little bit, which I'm more than ok with.  It's like them, but a little more plodding at first.  It picks up, but when it starts it's just so grindingly heavy, I love it.

Secondly, I know nothing about these guys, as I've just learned about them...  Today.  I learned they're playing in the area, and a friend of mine talked them up a lot so I thought I'd give them a listen.  This is the only song I've heard, but it's enough to make me want to check it out, ya know?  I'll probably hit that show.
