Prison - Wear Your Skin

Band: Prison
Song: Wear Your Skin
Album: N.G.R.I. (2017)
Genre: Alternative Metal
Bandcamp: prisonfl.bandcamp.com

You know what's cool about Prison?  How open they are about mental illness and the like.  The frontman especially has been working overtime on social media to try and get people to understand that it's not bad to have a problem, but that it's not weak to reach out for help.

Rage Against The Machine - Take The Power Back

Band: Rage Against The Machine
Song: Take The Power Back
Album: Rage Against The Machine (1992)
Genre: Alternative Metal
Language: Strong

Hey hey, happy 4th of July!  Last year or so I think I had cool music for this, but this year I'm gonna swing more with the revolution aspect of Independence Day.  Not tryna make a statement, just figured it was a different angle to approach from since I don't exactly have too many patriotic songs left to post after 3 or 4 years, haha

Daron Malakian and Scars On Broadway - They Say

Band:  Daron Malakian and Scars On Broadway (formerly Scars On Broadway)
Song:  They Say
Album:  Scars On Broadway (2008)
Genre:  Alternative Metal
Language:  Strong

Now I know this band is technically an Alt Metal act, but when I found them they were in a Punk suggestion list.  I don't remember exactly how, but they were.

With that in mind, please listen to the vocals and that guitar line after the chorus and understand why I thought they sounded just like The Dead Kennedys.  Specifically songs like Holiday In Cambodia, cause there's some heavy vibes of that in here.

Turns out Scars On Broadway is a band formed by Daron Malakian, former System Of A Down guitarist and backing vocalist.  Knowing that, I can't help but hear the traditional SOAD harmony work going down here, but I'm not mad about that.  It's actually a sound that really lends itself to what's going on.  Bumped the song up into one of my top 5 in the January/February area, so that's cool.

Disturbed - Fire It Up

Band:  Disturbed
Song:  Fire It Up
Album:  Immortalized (2015)
Genre:  Alternative Metal

So when I was talking about needing a good replacement for Disturbed, this is the song I was thinking of.

Their big return to the music scene was really exciting honestly.  The social media buildup was flawless, the leaked bits were amazing, the first single was strong.  So much was going well for them, and then they release the album.

The album was pretty much standard fare though.  Nothing super cool or standout other than the single and The Sound Of Silence.  Then there's Fire It Up.  I can't even imagine what went through their head thinking a song about weed was a good one to come back with, but here ya go.  It's a fun sounding song, very classic Disturbed, but lyrically it's a mess.  Nowhere near what they were when they dropped off the scene, so that's a little disappointing.

Corroded - 6ft Of Anger

Band: Corroded
Song:  6ft Of Anger
Album:  Seven Shades Of Black
Genre:  Alternative Metal
Language:  Strong

I feel like this band sounds uncomfortably like Disturbed, but with less involved guitar work.  Not a bad thing at all, but it almost feels like the Walmart brand band vs the real thing.

The more I listened to this band prepping for this the less I was impressed with them though.  They don't have the staying power I need to keep me interested, it's just kinda blah.  It's not like I don't want to like them, I'd love to find a band that sounds like Disturbed since I've burned pretty heavily through their discography a few time now.

But hey, hope you at least like this.

Rage Against The Machine - Bulls On Parade

Band:  Rage Against The Machine
Song:  Bulls On Parade
Album:  Evil Empire (1996)
Genre:  Nu-Metal, Alternative Metal
Language:  Brief, Strong

Back when I planned to post this it was because of some revolution that happened on March 8th 1917.  It was ironically called The February Revolution due to Russia using the Julian calendar at the time.

I however know nothing about this event because I never took the time to research it.

There was also the Syrian coup d'état that happened in 64, but I know even less about that one.

Suffice it to say, we're just gonna enjoy the face that we've got this fun little tune to listen to, and leave it at that.

Faith No More - Ashes to Ashes

Band:  Faith No More
Song:  Ashes to Ashes
Album:  Album Of the Year (1997)
Genre:  Alternative Metal

Now that I share on Twitter as well as Facebook and G+ I'm super tempted to start tagging bands that I post.  But at the same time, I'm horrendously terrified that any artists will actually find the things I write about them, ya know?

Like, take this string of posts.  This is day 3 writing about a vocalist to a band I only recently rediscovered on a whim.  What would I do if they tuned in and actually read what I wrote?  It's not exactly polished, ya know?

So yeah, launching into my none terror fueled section of the post, here's a Faith No More song that I found by going to the album that's name amused me the most and shuffling.  Not too creative a method, but man this is a fantastic album, ya feel?  This song showcases Mike's vocals really well in the singing category.  very smooth and all that.

Tomahawk - God Hates A Coward

Band:  Tomahawk
Song:  God Hates A Coward
Album:  Tomahawk (2001)
Genre:  Alternative Metal
Language:  Strong

Getting back into the realm of better music, I figured I'd highlight a rather fantastic vocalist, Mike Patton.

A few of you may be familiar with the vocal stylings of Mike from his time in Faith No More from 88 to whatever they're doing today.  Others may have heard him in his Mr. Bungle days, though that's not something I'm as familiar with personally.  In my research I've also found that he voiced all the hermaphrodites in I Am Legend and he scored the Netflix movie 1922 (which was really good).

Tomahawk is one of the small acts he threw together with a couple other guys.  From what I'm looking at here it seems to be something he does kinda often.  I've got mad respect for this dude cause he doesn't let himself get trapped in a single genre, he explores everywhere he can manage.

Check out this video.  I linked the live one cause he does some really cool things to mimic the effects they had in studio.  He sings the verses through a gas mask people.  A freaking gas mask.

Seether - Fake It

Band:  Seether
Song:  Fake It
Album:  Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces (2007)
Genre:  Alternative Metal
Language:  Strong

I mean firstly, let's get the elephant addressed.  Screw these guys for uploading the censored version of this song literally everywhere I can find it in good quality.  Here's a lower quality one that's actually the legit song.

This song was popular in our crew when I first started at Chick-fil-A back in 2012 though, so I used to hear a lot of it.  I dig it though.  It got over played, but it was still a fun song while it lasted.

A to Z 2K17: E is for Evanescence

Band:  Evanescence
Song:  A New Way To Bleed
Album:  Evanescence (Deluxe Edition)
Genre:  Alternative Metal

I'm kinda bummed for this one.  Like, I kinda enjoyed Evanescence's first album a lot.  I didn't really listen to it until it was overplayed to death and such, but I still liked it.  I wasn't a huge fan of their second album cause it felt really laid back though.  Amy Lee has a fantastic voice, don't get me wrong, but I feel like she can't be the main focus of the group.

These guys were right in the forefront of the Alt Metal movement for a while and arguably were one of the more popular acts since they had a lot of success across the board.  I feel like they steppe their sounds back a little too far for my tastes, but that doesn't mean they can't be good.  Just not as good to me.

I miss the rapper mostly, his little bits were fun.

Boom, that's E.

Gideon - Pulling Teath

Band:  Gideon
Album:  Pulling Teeth (Single)
Genre:  Alternative Metal

I really really love a catchy Hardcore song, especially one with a really catchy chorus.

I was looking for some Christian music that wasn't Metal type stuff a week or so ago, but nobody on Facebook understood my question.  They instead of sending me non-tacky modern Christian Music they sent me a pile of Christian Hardcore.  The plus side is that we got some really solid recommendations out of it, so go us?

Enjoy Pulling Teeth, it's a really good tune.
