Three Days Grace - Goin' Down

Band:  Three Days Grace
Song:  Goin' Down
Album:  Life Starts Now (2009)
Genre:  Alternative Rock

I don't know why, but this song always makes me think of the movie Saw.  I heard this album around the same time I first saw Saw, and the weird guitar bit in the beginning kinda sounded like something you'd hear in the credits or something, ya feel?

The song creeped me out for ages because of that actually, I tried to never listen to it at night after work cause it made me uneasy.

Huey Lewis & The News - Hip To Be Square

Band:  Huey Lewis & The News
Song:  Hip To Be Square
Album:  Fore!  (1986)
Genre:  Pop, New Wave

What's a good way to spice things up before the A to Z?  How about the hit song from American Psycho!

Nah, I know that's not what it's from, but that's fine.  I love that movie, and that's what counts.

Totally never think about this band though, so it was kinda cool to have them randomly pop into my head.  I mean, I was kinda scrambling to pick somebody new since the one I had picked for today got shuffled down into the A to Z line, but that's fine.  Check out the post for R on the 20th though, it's gonna be bomb.

Snoop Dogg - Step Yo Game Up

Artist:  Snoop Dogg feat. Lil Jon, Trina
Song:  Step Yo Game Up
Album:  R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta):  The Masterpiece
Genre:  Rap, Hip Hop
Language:  Strong

Sometimes the best music to have is just plain fun Lil Jon yelling at you.  This song happens to have one of my favorite flows of his, so I figured it'd be a good one to share.

Apologies for the short post again, but life has been getting away from me recently and I need some more sleep.  Tomorrow I'll have a better plan of what all will happen, so stay tuned.

Murderdolls - White Wedding

Band:  Murderdolls
Song:  White Wedding (cover)
Album:  Beyond The Valley Of The Murderdolls (Special Edition, 2002)
Genre:  Horror Punk

Hey hey, 4 days till we rock right into the A to Z, eh?  Gonna be a solid month.

So I was thinking, and the best way I can think to launch into the minor disaster that will soon by April is to hit y'all with a pile of covers.  And by that I mean 4.  4 covers.

Murderdolls is just a fantastic band.  They sound like what you'd expect to hear from somebody like, Marilyn Manson, decided to pick up the tempo and anger.  Actually vocally they sound super freaking similar.

The band, while it has a selection of great musicians in it, has only one I'm going to talk about today.  Joey Jordison, one of the guitarists, was also the drummer for Slipknot up until their most recent album.  This was a side act he was a part of during the earlier parts of Slipknot's rise to popularity.  I was really surprised to find he could play another instrument honestly.  He's such a fantastic drummer I didn't think he'd be able to be a performing artist as anything else.  But yeah, he's not a bad guitarist at all, so good for him.

If you're a fan of Punk with a nasty edge to it, I'm sure you'll enjoy what Murderdolls has to provide.

Pearl Jam - Even Flow

Band:  Pearl Jam
Song:  Even Flow
Album:  Ten (1991)
Genre: Grunge

While I'm a big fan of the 3 or 4 Grunge bands I actually listen to, there's some random little songs I know from various other bands.

This song for example, I'm familiar with it from Guitar Hero III.  I don't really like the fact that I know if from that since I kinda should be better about that.  Like, the games had a lot of great Rock singles, but I feel like less of a music fan if that's the only way I know if from, ya know?

But here, have a song that's guitar riff is filled with swagger that I wish I could copy.

Alice In Chains - Check My Brain

Band:  Alice In Chains
Song:  Check My Brain
Album:  Black Gives Way To Blue (2009)
Genre:  Grunge

I feel like a vastly underrated AiC album is the one they put out after Layne died.  Sure, it doesn't really feel the same as some of their older work, but I feel like the fact they picked up a vocalist who was able to compete with Layne at all is a miracle in itself.

I like a lot of the tracks on the album though, with the first half being especially strong.  This'll be a short post cause I'm really sick and need sleep, catch ya later.

Woods Of Ypres - Kiss My Ashes (Goodbye)

Band:  Woods Of Ypres
Song:  Kiss My Ashes (Goodbye)
Album:  Woods 5: Grey Skies & Electric Light (2012)
Genre:  Doom Metal

I'm sure everybody has their favorite sad music, Woods Of Ypres is one of my top choices for that.

I'm leaning toward it being their smooth style that draws me in.  Even the songs they scream on are incredibly plodding and powerful feeling of morose power, ya know?

The whole vibe they have going on is like that actually.  Their albums are a great listen, and in general I feel like their lyrics have a lot of weight to them.

Disturbed - Fire It Up

Band:  Disturbed
Song:  Fire It Up
Album:  Immortalized (2015)
Genre:  Alternative Metal

So when I was talking about needing a good replacement for Disturbed, this is the song I was thinking of.

Their big return to the music scene was really exciting honestly.  The social media buildup was flawless, the leaked bits were amazing, the first single was strong.  So much was going well for them, and then they release the album.

The album was pretty much standard fare though.  Nothing super cool or standout other than the single and The Sound Of Silence.  Then there's Fire It Up.  I can't even imagine what went through their head thinking a song about weed was a good one to come back with, but here ya go.  It's a fun sounding song, very classic Disturbed, but lyrically it's a mess.  Nowhere near what they were when they dropped off the scene, so that's a little disappointing.

Corroded - 6ft Of Anger

Band: Corroded
Song:  6ft Of Anger
Album:  Seven Shades Of Black
Genre:  Alternative Metal
Language:  Strong

I feel like this band sounds uncomfortably like Disturbed, but with less involved guitar work.  Not a bad thing at all, but it almost feels like the Walmart brand band vs the real thing.

The more I listened to this band prepping for this the less I was impressed with them though.  They don't have the staying power I need to keep me interested, it's just kinda blah.  It's not like I don't want to like them, I'd love to find a band that sounds like Disturbed since I've burned pretty heavily through their discography a few time now.

But hey, hope you at least like this.

Migos - Walk It Talk It

Artist:  Migos feat. Drake
Song:  Walk It Talk It
Album:  Culture II (2018)
Genre:  Rap, Trap, Hip Hop
Language:  Strong

I finally got around to watching this pure gold wonderful video.  What a wonderful parody of old 70s style and shows, the whole thing is fantastic.

Migos in general I'm kinda neutral on honestly.  They're good, but not fully my cup of tea.  I'm sure if I took the time to listen to more of their stuff I'd actually like them a lot just based around what their general style is, but I suppose we'll see, eh?
