Alice Cooper made me think of a lot of the music I haven't listened to in a while, and it reminded me of Devo.

While I was never much familiar with these guys outside of their Greatest Hits album, I still do enjoy the sound they have going on.  I suppose they're a good example of a band I'm not super familiar with, but I'd call myself a fan, ya know?

When I was talking about my plan to make a punk band that covers 80s Pop music with my brother he heavily recommended this one.  I didn't remember it at first cause I've never listened to much Tears For Fears, but having listened to it now not only do I remember it, but it's going to be fantastic in the Punk style.

Talking Heads - Burning Down The House

I feel like I told this story before, but it's a really good one, so I'll tell it again.

I once had a dream that I was helping David Byrne of Talking Heads make an art film.  We were in a gigantic warehouse that was painted flat gray.  There were large geometric shapes (pyramids, cubes, spheres, etc.) everywhere, but there were minimal shadows.  I don't know anything about what the movie was suppose to be, outside of the fact that my job was to get Eminem to recite free verse poetry in the middle of the room.

Eminem either didn't want to do this or wasn't doing it right, so for the rest of the dream I had to try and convince him to do what David wanted him to.  It was honestly really stressful, I wasn't a fan.

No clue why, but this song has been running through my head for the past couple weeks.  I was originally gonna include it as part of the crazy nostalgia trip, but I kinda got bored with the theme, so here they are now.

Like, Devo was a crazy interesting group.  Their music, while a little weird sometimes, is just enjoyable.  Maybe not to everybody, as I can see how they could get annoying, but still rather fun.

Nah, I know that's not what it's from, but that's fine.  I love that movie, and that's what counts.

Totally never think about this band though, so it was kinda cool to have them randomly pop into my head.  I mean, I was kinda scrambling to pick somebody new since the one I had picked for today got shuffled down into the A to Z line, but that's fine.  Check out the post for R on the 20th though, it's gonna be bomb.

Nu-Vember: Islander - New Wave

Band:  Islander

Genre:  Nu-Metal

If we're being honest, a lot of what Islander does just reminds me of Deftones and Periphery.  This song for example especially, just the way it flows musically reminds me of general Deftones mellow sound or specifically The Bad Thing by Periphery.

This is a newer band though, which is why I'm including them in the highlight reel that is Nu-Vember.  They're honestly a really solid sounding band, I'm looking forward to seeing what they come out with.  Their newer album is a lot more straight up Metal than this one, so musical evolution is clearly an option for them.

Talking Heads - Psycho Killer

Originally I was going to post this because I was watching It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia for the last 3 weeks straight and this song turned up somewhere in the middle on me, but then I had an even better reason to.

So I've been really sick for the last week.  Not sure what it was, I just know it wasn't the flu.  But I had a fever to go with it and that's the important part of this story.  Fever dreams.

I had this dream that David Byrne (Talking Heads frontman, 2nd from the left in the picture) was making an art film with Eminem (not pictured).  Eminem was reciting free verse poetry in a gigantic warehouse that was painted flat gray, and David was having none of it.  No matter what Eminem did it was never quite what he was looking for.  Long story short they argued for a while and I got crushed under 4 gigantic stone spheres.  Fever dreams, amirite?

But yeah, good song, good band.  I'll link to a live show next time, you'll love the stage show these guys put on.

Love And Death - Whip It

So I don't know how many of you ever listened/listen to Devo, but they are a rather interesting musical group.  Early New Wave music.

Now for anybody unfamiliar with Love and Death, they are a band formed by Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch.  They are nothing like Devo.  Metal/Nu-Metal music.

So seeing the difference in bands and eras these guys come from, you'll probably be as surprised as me when you find out that Love And Death covered one of Devo's songs.  Actually you probably won't, but it's still a cool thing to tell people.
