The Showdown - Carry On Wayward Son

Band:  The Showdown
Song:  Carry On Wayward Son (cover)
Album:  Temptation Come My Way (200
Genre:  Southern Metal

This actually might have been the song that tipped me toward covers the most.  The Showdown was one of my favorite bands when I first was getting into Metal stuff because of how great their album Blood In The Gears was, so I bought all their other stuff too.  Worth it, still love it.

But this song right here, it's honestly a top shelf cover.  I didn't think of covers too highly until this one.  I think it might have also helped my parents tolerate my new music tastes too, but you never know.

Haste The Day - Long Way Down

Band:  Haste The Day
Song:  Long Way Down (Cover)
Album:  When Everything Fails (2005)
Genre:  Metalcore

We're gonna wrap up this nostalgia theme soon, cause I'm starting to burn out a little bit.  I'd be remiss if I didn't delve into my huge obsession with cover songs though, so we'll use this as my transition toward that era a little more.

It took me ages to know this was a cover song though.  It wasn't until I heard a friends band cover it that I learned the song wasn't an original.  I suppose that makes sense since it doesn't really sound like the rest of the album, but you get what you get I suppose.

Breaking Benjamin - Dance With The Devil

Band:  Breaking Benjamin
Song:  Dance With The Devil
Album:  Phobia  (2006)
Genre: Alternative Rock

I feel like everybody has that band that they listened to when they thought they were miserable and nobody understood them.  The band that helped them feel edgy and whatever, ya know?  It kinda makes me wonder what it was like before there were bands to make people feel one way or another...  Maybe that's why there were so many more small time gangs back in the day.

Anywho, this is a fun little ditty that just screams edgy, so of course 16 year old me loved it to death.

MyChildren MyBride - Headshot!

Band:  MyChildren MyBride
Song:  Headshot!
Album:  Unbreakable (2008)
Genre:  Metalcore

As I'm sure some of you have noticed, I've been a little late with my posts.  Not really past like, 9am, but still later than I hope for since I try to go live at midnight.  Well there's a great reason for that, and that's because I graduated from Toni&Guy this week.  I still need to get my state papers in order, but ya bot is no longer a student!  I'm pretty pumped about this if we're being honest.

In the realm of throwback though I'm really feeling some more nostalgia than normal, cause this brings back not only memories of my old music selection, but also of playing way too much Halo 2.

I was amazed there was actually music about Halo when I heard this song, mostly because I was a wee lad of about 15 or 16 that had no clue how the world worked.  I now know there's loads of video game based music, but this is one of the more obvious ones I've come across in my time at least.  Fun song though, and some fun breakdowns in it.

ScHoolboy Q - X

Artist:  ScHoolboy Q feat. 2 Chainz, Saudi
Song:  X
Album:  Black Panther (2018)
Genre:  Rap, Hip Hop
Language:  Strong

I suppose I should have shared this by now, considering I'm a huge fan of ScHoolboy Q, 2 Chainz, Kendrick, and the film itself.  Still though, that gives me some great time to share it now, and that's just as important I feel.

Kendrick Lamar got the task of helping curate the soundtrack of Black Panther, which included getting some original songs out there.  While he's not featured for a whole verse, he was heavily involved in the production, in addition to being the vocalist on the chorus.

There's some really solid lines in here, but my personal favorite is probably one by ScHoolboy Q.  Near the end of his verse he says N*gga December been good to me, Not even Kendrick can humble me.  ScHoolboy Q has traded minor jabs with Kendrick for ages, and this would just be another example of that.  With Humble being one of my favorite songs off of DAMN. though, I just couldn't help but chuckle a little when I heard it the first time.

It's a solid, reasonably chill song too, so I hope y'all enjoy it!

Diplo, French Montana, & Lil Pump - Welcome To The Party [New Release]

Artists:  Diplo, French Montana, & Lil' Pump feat. Zhavia
Song:  Welcome To The Party
Album:  Deadpool 2 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, 2018)
Genre:  Club, Rap

**Apologies, this post is 8 hours late in the posting, I just forgot to set it live yesterday.

As long time readers may remember, I was a huge fan of Purple Lamborghini from the Suicide Squad soundtrack.  The whole thing was just (in my mind) a game changer in the rap scene.  I'm not familiar with anybody else who had done songs like that at least, mixing Rap and Dubstep is just a good idea, ya know?

Well Deadpool 2 straight murdered Suicide Squad's attempt at making this work.  Welcome To The Party is a by far superior version of Purple Lamborghini.  The vibe of the song is just a little darker, and while I love Rick Ross, these features work a little better.

It's also worth noting that this is probably the best flow I've heard Lil Pump use yet.  I'm really excited to see what new material he comes out with, maybe he will live past 20 after all.

Neocracy - Here's To The Reckoning

Band:  Neocracy
Song:  Here's To The Reckonging
Album:  The Instinct For Conflict (2008)
Genre:  Melodic Death Metal

Let's rock out to some of the music I was having a terrible time finding.  Like, for real, it took me ages to actually remember who these guys were and what the songs were called.  See, an issue with a lot of the music I got from Matt is that most of it didn't come complete.  Mostly meaning I didn't have the album info for a lot of artists, but in some cases I also had no track names, just numbers.

In the case of Neocracy, I was honestly just missing the album art.  If I see a picture, I'm much more likely to remember an album than if, say, I just have the name.  I'm generally good about it, but there's times like this when I couldn't remember for the life of me anything about the band outside of the artist name.

Then, after rediscovering Staple, I decided to just search Neocracy and just listen to songs till I found one I remembered.

This song hit me right out the gate with that screaming scale sweep and all my fun memories of jamming out to these guys came back.  Back in the day I generally only listened to that part up till the screaming started, then skipped back to hear the guitar again.  Such a good time man, always worth checking out.

Unrelated, I graduate today.

Staple - Dictatorship Vs Democracy

Band:  Staple
Song:  Dictatorship vs. Democracy
Album:  Staple (2005)
Genre:  Post Hardcore

Staple is a band I don't really have a lot of info on.  Like many bands I got from Matt, they are a Christian hardcore act.  Unlike a lot of stuff he gave me though, I don't think I ever got much into their music.  Ironically though, these guys are what prompted the heavy throwback theme we have going on here.

See, I somehow rediscovered these guys, and from there decided to build a theme up.  So yeah, this band I hardly remember is the reason for this, you're welcome.

Bride - Psychedelic Super Jesus

Band:  Bride
Song:  Psychedelic Super Jesus
Album:  Snakes In The Playground
Genre:  Metal

Now I already shared my original favorite Bride song, "Hell, No", so I've gotta pull one that I found myself at a later date.

Most of the music I'm sharing here is likely to be a Christian act, and Bride is no example.  While I only learned this recently, this song is about how in the town Bride comes from everybody seems to think of Jesus as some 60s hippie guru.  That's not really his though though, so Bride made a song about it.  Kinda cool knowing the back story I suppose.

I just know these guys helped get me into Hair Metal, and basically are the reason I started listening really heavily to Iron Maiden for a few years.

Daughtry - What I Want

Band:  Daughtry feat. Slash
Song:  What I Want
Album:  Daughtry (2006)
Genre:  Rock

Now before I heard I was supposed to hate Daughtry in the same way that people hate on Nickelback, I heard this song.  My friend Matt gave me this album and, since I was kinda familiar with Slash, I was attracted to this song.

The song is super catchy, and I'm willing to credit that to Clash.  Daughtry has a great voice for Rock, but the music he does just isn't always like that.  If all their music was just like this I feel like they'd do better in the public realm.
