This actually might have been the song that tipped me toward covers the most.  The Showdown was one of my favorite bands when I first was getting into Metal stuff because of how great their album Blood In The Gears was, so I bought all their other stuff too.  Worth it, still love it.

But this song right here, it's honestly a top shelf cover.  I didn't think of covers too highly until this one.  I think it might have also helped my parents tolerate my new music tastes too, but you never know.

So I saw the new Thor movie last night.  It wasn't bad to be honest, but it wasn't as good as I was hoping for.  Maybe I just don't get as much out of it as other people, but that's ok I suppose.  The movie is still a blast for at least one viewing.

Cause of being out late with a movie though I decided to go back to one of my classic bands, one that I hope you enjoy as much as I did back in the day.

I really miss this band.  They broke up a few years back and I wish they would get back together.

But hey, at least I have 4 albums to listen to, right?  I never really listened to it as much as Blood In The Gears, but that doesn't make it bad at all.  The whole thing has a heavy greek mythology vibe to it that's kinda cool to read while you listen.

The Showdown - Blood In The Gears

The Showdown was probably my favorite band for a little while back in 2010.  They had just released the album Blood In The Gears and it was at the time the best thing I had heard.  Turns out when they recorded the album they borrowed a couple of people from Demon Hunter.  Go figure, Demon Hunter was one of my favorites before I even knew it.

But yo, the vocalist for The Showdown is possibly one of my favorites for the Southern Metal style.  He's pretty smooth with his transitions between singing and screaming and his screaming is just good.  It's really perfectly suited for the style of music they play.  Sure, they have a bit of a Pantera fetish, but that works out reasonably well for the band.  It's a solid, crazy, southern style that you don't always find executed in a polished way.

The Showdown - Heavy Lies The Crown

Oh look, the band that I'm still really ticked that they broke up.

I'm even more annoyed since they were surprisingly active on Facebook a little while ago and I thought that they might be coming back, ya know?  I really loved their music

But hey, I still own their CDs so I can still listen to them all I want.  It's not ideal since I'm never going to get to see them live now, but it's still an option.  I'm trying to stick to the albums that my friend originally gave me way back when, and I already posted my all time favorites off of this album so you'll have to settle for second place today.

Only another threeish more days of the Matt throwback stuff.  After that we're gonna hit up the stuff that my parents gave me when I first started listening to music

The Showdown - Temptation Come My Way

As we continue on a list of bands I like and some that I forgot about, we shall touch on The Showdown.  These guys had some really solid potential back in the day, but they broke up.  I'm really bummed, but even on the last album they weren't able to get the full band together.  Half of the recording artists were Demon Hunter's current lineup because they were't able to get their own drummer or guitarist to commit.

I hold out hopes that they'll come back sometime because their Facebook page was active again recent;y, but who knows.

The Showdown - The Man Named Hell

Around the same time I got into Demon Hunter I got into The Showdown.

These guys have managed to make 4 albums, but then unfortunately have been in hiatus since their last release, "Blood In The Gears".

A Southern Metal band reminiscent of Pantera in their earlier work and finally falling into more of their own sound later on, they really aren't to bad if that's the kind of thing you're into.  I know I like it a lot, so obviously ya'll should get into it.  Tune in for tomorrows Southern Metal group that is even better than this!

Ironically, the main guitar riff sounds a lot like Pantera's song "Cowboys From Hell".
