Haste The Day - Long Way Down

Band:  Haste The Day
Song:  Long Way Down (Cover)
Album:  When Everything Fails (2005)
Genre:  Metalcore

We're gonna wrap up this nostalgia theme soon, cause I'm starting to burn out a little bit.  I'd be remiss if I didn't delve into my huge obsession with cover songs though, so we'll use this as my transition toward that era a little more.

It took me ages to know this was a cover song though.  It wasn't until I heard a friends band cover it that I learned the song wasn't an original.  I suppose that makes sense since it doesn't really sound like the rest of the album, but you get what you get I suppose.

Haste The Day - Wake Up The Sun

Band:  Haste The Day
Song:  Wake Up The Sun
Album:  Attack Of The Wolf King (2010)
Genre:  Metalcore

I figured I kinda wanted a more high speed song.  Not that Snowblind wasn't fast, but I want something that runs fast the whole time till it just burns out, ya know?

I'm pretty happy with my pick too, it's pretty much exactly what I needed it to be.  It's not exactly a burnout song, but it's got a nice edge to it that fills my desire for that.  For now at least, I'll probably come up with a better one later this week.

HEY HEY!  ANNOUNCEMENT!

I have a Twitter account for this now.  The posts will share at the same time as G+ and Facebook, but you'll also get the added benefit of hearing my thoughts one artists here and there.  Lots of fun little things, you can find all the info you need in the area of right under the video.

Haste The Day - Fallen

Band:  Haste The Day
Song:  Fallen
Album:  When Everything Falls
Genre:  Hardcore

One thing that tends to drive me crazy is when Christian bands constantly pander to their audience with church phrases and sayings.  You can single bands out pretty easily that musically might stand apart, but then once the singing starts you hear those church/bible phrases that immediately label a band really harshly.

I'm not saying this is a bad thing.  The reason Christian Contemporary Music is a genre at all is because there's so many bands that do this.  It's turned it into a whole thing and it's great for people who like that.  Not me, but I'm not about to write off an entire genre because I don't like their imagery.

Here's the issue though.  When that's the only style of music available you're going to have issues.  Me for example.  If I was a new believer one thing I'd really chafe at would be a lack of music for me to get into.  Music, as I'm sure y'all might have noticed, is a big deal to me.  If I came in and found that not only am I being told I have to give up all my old music (totally separate issue there) but that all I have to replace it is Casting Crowns, Aaron Shust, and Jeremy Camp I'd have some issues to address right quick.

Just cause a band has the religious label attached to them doesn't mean they need to be less good than their secular counterpart.  I know a lot of this is because people aren't familiar with a lot of what to give people to listen to, but I'm gonna make it a minor mission to let people know where to find the good Christian Metal stuff.

If you are of a religious background and don't believe me, go ahead and check the lyrics for the songs I'm posting during this whole rant week I'm on, please.  They're all pretty solid.

Haste The Day - When Everything Falls

Band:  Haste The Day
Genre:  Hardcore, Metalcore

Throwback to when I got my first iPod, holy crap.

Honestly I can't believe I didn't include these guys on the throwback week I did a while ago.  Ok, maybe it was like 13 days and not a week which would explain why I missed a couple bands here and there.  (started here if you're interested in checking it out.)

Haste The Day were a christian Hardcore/Metalcore band back in the day that put out a lot of really good music.  Good being a matter of perspective I guess, but really, this was a freaking awesome album in my opinion.  It has a high screaming of vocals that I've always loved and they manage to tie those into clean singing and gang vocals that just scream early 2000s.  Personally I could do without as heavy an amount of clean vocals because eventually you just kinda wait for the part in each song where they kick in.

Solid group with a positive message though, which is a little harder to find nowadays than it used to be.
