Dave Brockie Experience - Damn That Money

Hey hey, another late post.  It's ok, I swear I'll get past it soon, just in time to hang up my keyboard and finish this project.  I would have had this up around 4 instead of 7:30, but I was attempting to get my desktop to work again.  Spoiler alert, it does not work still, and I need a full overhaul of the hardware.  So yeah, that's a little painful, but I'll have it back soon.

So yeah, how about we talk about just a fun little song, with Damn That Money by  Dave Brockie Experience.  This is the side project of Dave Brockie, also knows as Oderus Urungus, the frontman of Gwar.

The dude is really funny, although he unfortunately passed away in 2014.  We still have the music he put out though, and it's all just a trip to listen to honestly.  Hope you like it!

I was reminded yesterday of Halestorm and what a great band they are.  While I'm not a super huge fan of their cover albums they've put out (although there's some solid songs on them), the other songs I've heard have just been great.  I also just learned they put out a new album 2 weeks ago, so that's amazing.

I'm gonna have to convince my band's singer to cover one of Halestorm's songs, that'd be an absolute blast.

Joan Jett and The Blackhearts - I Love Rock N' Roll

We played this song last night and it was a blast.  I suppose this means I've finally sold out, but I made $30 for having a blast of an evening, which paid to fill back up my gas tank and wash laundry, so I feel like I'm the one coming out ahead here.

The crowd was super responsive though, 10/10 would play aggressive rock and classic rock for them again.

Daughtry - What I Want

Now before I heard I was supposed to hate Daughtry in the same way that people hate on Nickelback, I heard this song.  My friend Matt gave me this album and, since I was kinda familiar with Slash, I was attracted to this song.

The song is super catchy, and I'm willing to credit that to Clash.  Daughtry has a great voice for Rock, but the music he does just isn't always like that.  If all their music was just like this I feel like they'd do better in the public realm.

Remedy Drive - Something Made To Last

We're nearing the end of the era of my MP3 player.  I had a super limited selection of tunes back in the day if we're being honest, and I was super bad at expanding my selection till I got the iPod.

I got this song from a friend of mine.  He was super excited to see I was getting in to music, and decided to stretch my music tastes by giving my a slightly harder rock album to listen to.

At the time I felt like I wasn't allowed to tell people I was into harder music.  For some reason in my head it wasn't allowed or something, even though I always listened to the heaviest songs of the artists I listened to at the time.  I dunno man.  This song had a ripping guitar line in it though, and I loved it to death.  I never kept up with the band though, and I feel like the stuff I've heard isn't in this vein, and as such not what I'm as in to.  Maybe I'll check out some more though, see if I can get back into it.

Nickelback - Rockstar

It's a bit of a shame that hating Nickelback became such a big thing, cause the band isn't nearly as bad as people pretend they are.  They've got a lot of fun songs in their discography, and Rockstar is one of them.

If we're being honest, I enjoy some of their other songs that I found for myself a lot more than this one.  This song sits squarely in the range of music that I'm just not that into anymore, but since it rings true to the era I'm posting about right now I feel like it's a good song to post.  It was honestly my first Nickelback song too, so I suppose it makes sense to post it.

I enjoy their generic Rock sound too.  Their music kinda sits in a happy rut for me, and their Rockier tunes are things that just work for me.  Burn It To The Ground is probably the best example of the work of their I like the most.

"Weird Al" Yankovic - UHF

I don't know if you've ever watched UHF, but if you haven't you really should.  The movie is absolutely amazing, and I really think it was a huge factor on some of my younger humor .

See, in my house we sang parody songs all the time.  That was a lot of joke songs flying around the house, and when I realized Weird Al existed it was a pretty amazing moment.  My brother and I used to have "Weird Al Parties" where we'd just sit in our room and mouth singing along with his stuff.  Sometimes we'd play Star Fox Assault's vs mode and try to make the actions of the game match up to the song.  Somehow at least, no clue why we tried to swing that.

Ghost - Absolution

Meliora was hands down Ghost's best album.  Musically I liked some of the tracks on their older stuff a lot, but they finally switched away their lyrics from being all "satan and the satanic satans are totes evil satans".  Like, that's still there and stuff, but it's less in your face like the first two albums.

The music is a lot better too actually.  I really loved a lot of what they had going on with the guitars in this one.  That's probably because the backing band for Ghost has changed several members out since the first album was written, so there's some new creative talent in there.

Either way here's a rather dope track off of Ghost's best album.

AC/DC - Back In Black

Honestly the reason I'm picking this song is 100% based on my school uniform.  I used to wear black all the time at Chick-fil-A, and when I started at Toni&Guy I really loved the fact that their uniform was black too.  I'd like a little more dimension, sure, but it's still my color of choice.
