Disturbed - Fire It Up

So when I was talking about needing a good replacement for Disturbed, this is the song I was thinking of.

Their big return to the music scene was really exciting honestly.  The social media buildup was flawless, the leaked bits were amazing, the first single was strong.  So much was going well for them, and then they release the album.

The album was pretty much standard fare though.  Nothing super cool or standout other than the single and The Sound Of Silence.  Then there's Fire It Up.  I can't even imagine what went through their head thinking a song about weed was a good one to come back with, but here ya go.  It's a fun sounding song, very classic Disturbed, but lyrically it's a mess.  Nowhere near what they were when they dropped off the scene, so that's a little disappointing.

Disturbed - The Game

Without a doubt the best album Disturbed put out would be The Sickness.  Believe was a solid album, and the others have all had their hits in them, but nothing quite brings it home like all the songs on The Sickness.

There were a lot of songs on the album that were really musically solid.  It's one of the few albums where I think I can honestly say I like every song on it, and it's definitely the only Disturbed album that I feel that way about.

To rep the album though here's The Game.  It's a fun little ditty.

If you want you can check out this live version from a few months ago.  Draiman's harsh vocals aren't really that great for the parts that are supposed to be screamed, but the rest is fantastic.  Their new (2003 till now) bassist really tears the song up during the chorus.

Disturbed - Ten Thousand Fists

Gotta love returning to old favorites, right?  I haven't listened to Disturbed in a long time, but I really should get back to it.  I didn't listen to all of the new album and that bugs me a bit.

To be honest though I blame their time away.  They took a multi year sabbatical that, in my opinion, killed their popularity.  It was a good return, but if we're being honest I don't think it helped them as much as it could have if they had come back stronger.  I heard very little after the the title track was released aside from the song about weed.

But this song was from back when they were crazy big, hence the great days of Disturbed.

Disturbed - The Curse

Speaking of Disturbed you want to hear a catchy little song?

I really loved this album when disturbed put it out.  In fact, I loved it enough to include it in last years A to Z Challenge.  It was one of my earlier Metal albums that I picked up after a dude game me about 200 random Metal songs to check out.  Maybe one of these days I'll do a theme week about all the stuff he gave me, we'll have to see about that.

Whether I end up doing that or not though you can still enjoy just a little bit of this song, yeah?  There's a reason that a lot of people have Disturbed on their workout playlists and such.  I personally have them on my "crappy work day" playlist when I need to inject a bit of energy into the day, ya know?

Disturbed - The Sound Of Silence

Genre:  Heavy Metal

Disturbed is one of those bands I have a love hate relationship with.  One one hand the music is really the generic angry sounds of everybody's middleschool highschool days.  On the other, the guitarist is actually a really underrated player who's really good at being a busy yet simple enough to not sound busy.  Draiman, the vocalist, is a fantastic singer who manages to bring an aspect of melody to a band that otherwise would just be another hardcore band.

For all this though they are still just kind of...  Meh to me.  Don't get me wrong, all the things I just said about them are true.  I do think they are a really powerful group and have some great things going for them, I just don't think it always comes through.

That is, up until this song.

Disturbed has decided that, in addition to Draiman's usual preachy stance on literally everything from weed to the holocaust, they are going to show a softer side.

There are very few cover songs that I think are legitimately better than the original.  All Along The Watchtower would be a good example of a cover song that's leaps and bounds above the original.

Well who would have figured that Disturbed would not only cover a Simon & Garfunkel song, but actually do it well?  Nobody basically.  The fact of the matter is though they managed to take a song and turn it into a power ballad that would make anybody proud.  The message of the song manages to shine through much strong than it did in the original without actually taking away from it.  The edge that Draiman's voice takes on when he get's more emotional in the song helps to drive in the point in a way that the original just wasn't able to.

Don't be scared by the fact that I labeled these guys as Heavy Metal.  That's their general genre but it's not how the song sounds.  They didn't speed it up and add a pile of guitars to it.  Take a listen and enjoy it.

Disturbed - Devour

I used to own this album like, 6 years ago but I sold it when I needed some spare cash.  Funny thing, I sold it to buy a different Disturbed album thinking "Well I still have it ripped on the computer."

This is all well and good, up until the computer crashed on me and I lost all of my music.  Not cool.

I bought it again on Thursday though and I really had forgotten how good an album it is, it's full of terrific songs and brought back a lot of fun memories.  This song is a lot better than I remember it being though, so please enjoy it.

FYI, disturbed is a metal band with no screaming really, just singing.  They also swear a lot if that's an issue, but this song is clean.

Disturbed - The Vengeful One

Oh hai Disturbed, it's been a while.  Since October of 2011 actually.

Officially announced yesterday, Disturbed has ended their indefinite hiatus with the announcement of an album in August and they're resuming touring.  Kinda a big deal, right?  Well, at least if you're into that stuff.

Enjoy though, it's a decent song.  If you like Disturbed, this song is good.

The video is actually kinda cool cause it looks half animated, half live action.

Device - Vilify

I can't remember if I've posted any Disturbed songs yet, but this is the side project of the singer, David Draiman.  It's not too bad if you enjoy the vague style of Nine Inch Nails, though there are some things I feel like the group could do better.

I feel like they need an actual bass player personally, but hey, I'm  not famous though so what do I know.

The more you listen to Device the more you'll realize that Draiman really needed Disturbed to hold him in place.  He kind of goes all over the place on this album turning it into the "Draiman Show" in a way.  Basically the group sounds like Disturbed but with more singing and less guitar riffs.

Disturbed - Fear

Disturbed was one of my favorite bands for a good many years.  I own all of their albums and have listened to them many many times.  I have not seen them live though, and this bums me since they'll probably stay "In hiatus" forever at this point.  I mean really, it's been almost 5 years.

While I don't care for them as much now, I still do hold a bit of a soft spot for them after all this time.  This was one of my favorite tracks back in the day, so I hope you like it.
