As a happy Christmas Eve I've decided to give you a fun newish take on The Grinch's song. The singer for P86, Andrew Schwab, wanted to recapture the horror he felt about The Grinch back when he was a kid, but he found that the original song just didn't cut it anymore. The band rewrote the music and The Schwab fixed up the lyrics to give ol' Grinchy a touch up in the creep department.
The song's rather fantastic and a great into to your adventures into A Very P86 Christmas, which is an interesting take on a couple Christmas songs plus some originals as well. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
There's good covers and there bad covers, but them you get weird ones like this that are somehow both.
I love the music on this album, it's all really solid. And the vocals? Yo, Chris Barnes is an amazing vocalist. Lyrically he's kinda trash, but vocally he's a beast. Apparently he will smoke all your weed too, so look out.
But the combination of vocal work to the music in these covers can leave something to be desired. It could be good, but the Death Metal vocals don't quite fit throughout the whole song. I love the initiative in making a full album like this, it just could have been better.
Don't let that stop you from checking out the song though, it's still rather amusing.
What happens when my favorite band covers one of my other favorite bands songs? Some good stuff, that's what.
I love Demon Hunter, I love Alice In Chains, and I love cover songs, so I'm in a pretty good spot here, amirite?

I've said it before and I'll say it again; I'm a sucker for great cover songs. This one almost sounds like Lady Gaga is singing with them, which considering she's a fantastic vocalist I think we can agree that that's a rather good thing for Lzzy Hale.

We were talking about music last night at work and since I like cover songs a lot I decided to ask what everybody's favorites were. After a resounding round of hate toward 5FDP and every cover they've ever played on of the guys mention Scott Bradlee.
I'm sure you've probably heard of this dude once or twice, but if you haven't please grace your ears with one of the songs he's organized.
Yo yo, here's a rather special cover song. This is a band that covers all kinds of songs in a Metal style. TV show themes, video game themes, all kinds of stuff.
I dunno, anybody that takes a song from Winnie The Pooh is good in my book, ya know?
Something like 6 or more years ago my friend loaned me a movie called Across The Universe. It's a movie that follows the life of a dude who comes to America and meets people and have an adventure.
It's narrated with a pile of Beatles songs that were all covered by the people acting in the movie for the movie. It was honestly a really cool movie, I'd advise you watch it if you haven't before.
I dunno, it's a rather solid movie that had a bunch of fun songs too, right?
Speaking of fun songs this is a really cool version of this one. It's better than Godsmack's version in my mind because this is a much more reimagined sound. The Aerosmith and Godsmack versions both just kinda sound like a cover, where as this is more of a tribute, ya feel?
It seems like more people seem to know this version instead of the original, so ok then. I love both versions because they remind me of one of my favorite James Bond movies of the same title.
That movie was the most racist piece of trash ever but it's so funny to watch I don't even care. Definitely with the about 2 hours, you should definitely watch it.
Who loves covers that totally change the song to something new? You freaking know I do.
ZZ Top took the song 25 Lighters and changed it into something wonderful and new that I actually didn't know was a cover until I found it in a list of "Worst cover songs of all time". You know what they were saying about it though? They were saying that a "bunch of old white guys all think it's a song about selling weed" because the writer seemed to know nothing much about ZZ Top's frontman, Billy Gibbons.
Billy G was once arrested for trying to shoot his girlfriend with a gun in his boot, ok? But while he tried to pull it out he accidentally shot himself in the foot. Well he get's himself to the hospital and as they're taking off the boot and a couple bags of heroin fall out.
These guys know what this song is about, no fear self hating article writer.
Cover songs can be wonderful things, but they can also be terrible things. Luckily for all of us this is a wonderful cover or one of those Gangster Rap songs.
Who could say no to a total genre swap? I mean seriously, this went from a hardcore Rap song to a fun little piano Pop ditty. I'm glad songs like this exist, because otherwise I might not have found out about guys like Ben Folds. His style of music isn't really something that I'd usually come across myself but when he crosses onto the stuff I'm familiar with it makes it a lot easier to find.
Because of finding him with songs like this I've started listening to his own stuff and am kinda stuck on it right now. Good piano work is really hard to come by in the circles I travel in and lo and behold if I didn't manage to find some here.
Disturbed is one of those bands I have a love hate relationship with. One one hand the music is really the generic angry sounds of everybody's middleschool highschool days. On the other, the guitarist is actually a really underrated player who's really good at being a busy yet simple enough to not sound busy. Draiman, the vocalist, is a fantastic singer who manages to bring an aspect of melody to a band that otherwise would just be another hardcore band.
For all this though they are still just kind of... Meh to me. Don't get me wrong, all the things I just said about them are true. I do think they are a really powerful group and have some great things going for them, I just don't think it always comes through.
That is, up until this song.
Disturbed has decided that, in addition to Draiman's usual preachy stance on literally everything from weed to the holocaust, they are going to show a softer side.
There are very few cover songs that I think are legitimately better than the original. All Along The Watchtower would be a good example of a cover song that's leaps and bounds above the original.
Well who would have figured that Disturbed would not only cover a Simon & Garfunkel song, but actually do it well? Nobody basically. The fact of the matter is though they managed to take a song and turn it into a power ballad that would make anybody proud. The message of the song manages to shine through much strong than it did in the original without actually taking away from it. The edge that Draiman's voice takes on when he get's more emotional in the song helps to drive in the point in a way that the original just wasn't able to.
Don't be scared by the fact that I labeled these guys as Heavy Metal. That's their general genre but it's not how the song sounds. They didn't speed it up and add a pile of guitars to it. Take a listen and enjoy it.

Bluegrass covers of all your favorite Rock songs though, you can't deny that that's really cool. I don't care if you hate Bluegrass, you hear the hits of AC/DC played like this and you're gonna fall in love. Maybe not in love, but at the very least you'll fall in like.
It takes some creative people to get something like this going. When they started you can tell it was a lot more joke oriented but as the years have gone by it's obvious they've accepted their niche place in culture and have refined their sound to fit that. This song for example sounds a lot more polished than Highway to Hell.

A friend of mine shared this on my Facebook page today and it set me on a mild Reggae kick. I might post a few more songs of this style this week, we'll see.
Reggae is something that I always have really enjoyed but never really got into a lot generally. My brother told me that I don't smoke enough (read any) weed to enjoy it properly, but whatever. I tend to gravitate towards more intense music. Gangster Rap and Metal fit that usually, but every now and then you need some good chillin' music.

Spent the day with the whole fam, which was nice cause we haven't all been home and awake at the same time for more than maybe an hour in quite a long while.

This is a really great cover of Gin and Juice, so I would hope you listen to it. At the very least try to cath the chorus, the dude's flow is solid.
Watsky is somebody I got introduced to a while ago by a friend of mine, but I never really listened to him. He's a really good rapper, I just never got around to looking into his stuff.
Karmin on the other hand, is another person I haven't listened to before. Honestly, the only reason I didn't listen to them is because they're a YouTube cover artist. I try to avoid them in general because I had a friend fangirl about one of them a while ago and, no matter how good they are, I just can't get into them now.
I might have to make an exception here though, cause this is a good remix of the original song.

My manager went to school with somebody who was either dating a member of the band or was related, so she found out about these guys from them. One day she played this song for me and it basically topped my list of favorite cover songs for at least 4 or 5 months. I'm really surprised that I haven't posted them yet actually...

You guys know I love a good cover song, and this is for sure is a good cover.
Never seen Frozen, don't really plan to, but as I'm sure all of you have, you know the main song. The song translates surprisingly well to Deathcore though, and if you're familiar with the Punk Goes Pop albums you're probably familiar with the style that's about to pop up. It's worth listening too though, even if only for the shear novelty of it.
