Band: Anthrax feat Public Enemy
Genre: Thrash Metal, Rap (Rash Metal?)
Here you go, the song that started an entire wave of music.
One of the cool things about Anthrax is that they were willing to do stuff like this. One of the less cool things about Anthrax is that they always did this stuff to stay relevant.
Scott Ian (guitarist) has been quoted asking Lady Gaga to cover one of their songs. He says it is purely for the novelty of hearing an Anthrax song in her style, but it comes across as trying too hard to be current and with the times.
Band: Run D.M.C. feat Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith
Genre: Rap Rock
I won't say these guys started the Nu-Metal trend, especially since this was much more Rap than Rock. This is a really important song to mention though, cause even though Run D.M.C. used a lot of electric guitar in their beats already, so kinda of a stepping stone song in the process.
DMC did a lot of that already, so including Aerosmith was basically just step two.
So I won't lie, when I chose this song I had a totally different idea of what song I was choosing. I had actually thought I was about to listen to their song Shine. I actually confuse the two songs quite often, which is annoying to me. Hey, at least they're both good songs, right?
A friend of mine showed these guys to me years ago and they have actually managed to stay in my recommended music rotation. Usually the stuff that people show me gets fazed out within a little while, but this stuff has managed to not do that and I like it that way.
Band: Living Sacrifice (feat. Ryan Clark of Demon Hunter)
Genre: Metalcore
If I'm being totally honest I don't really listen to Living Sacrifice too much. I like their stuff well enough, mostly off of The Infinite Order, but all in all they're a group I don't pay that much attention to.
I do believe though that I've made it very clear that I love the band Demon Hunter. Their singer Ryan is possibly my favorite Metal vocalist, or at least in my top 5, so when I find him doing songs with other people it's kinda exciting.
This is a song that's pretty good, though if you don't like thy style then I apologize. I've been doing better about a bigger selection I think, so that's good.
Band: Greenday
Genre: Punk Rock
Language: Some, Strong
Green Day, you know who they are, right?
Well this song has a really fun bass line that is both easy and hard to learn.
In general though it's a song I have no issues with, so that's good, right?
For real though, I apologize for not getting this post up till 5am. I might be a little late on a couple this week cause I have a lot of really full days coming up. I've got a spare hour or two today that I could probably get some stuff knocked out in if I don't just fall asleep somewhere though, so we'll see.
Artist: Matoma
Genre: Tropical House
Language: Strong
You guys may remember this guy from when I posted his song Old Thing Back, he's a remix artist. I'm becoming happier and happier with all the stuff of his I've heard so far. Not gonna lie though, this may be a song that I like even more than Old Thing Back. It's Eminem, so it does help that I'm more familiar with him than Biggie.
When you listen to this song though either have a good sound system or good headphones cause the bass is really important to the feeling of the song.
So a group I'm with is doing a teaching series called "Friends" and at the beginning of each night the band plays this song.
It's a really nice version actually, they manage to avoid the 90s Pop Rock sound that the original has. That's not to say the original isn't good. If it wasn't I probably wouldn't be posting it, would I?
FYI, this was ready on time. It was just scheduled to go live at 5pm when I wrote it yesterday. My bad.
Band: The Beatles
Genre: Pop Rock, Classic Rock
Themes: Positivist
Not gonna lie, this is a hastily thrown together thing. I ended up hanging out with a friend until 12 am and I had to be for work at 4:30. It was an unexpected thing, but still a lot of fun so I don't regret anything.
You guys should know about The Beatles anyway, so I don't need to say anything about them I don't think.
Band: George Thorogood & The Destroyers
Genre: Classic Rock
Every single time I hear this song all I can think of is a clip from The Simpsons where Sideshow Bob corrects Krusty the Clown's grammar by saying "Hello children, whom do you love?" This song and one by Rob Zombie always make my think of that.
1 year! YES! Uninterrupted music (with the exception of forgetting to share the link on G+ or the occasional late post) for 365 days! Grand total of 365 songs, though one was a repeat on my birthday. I was going to post that Kool & The Gang song today, but I posted that sometime last year. Curse me for not thinking ahead.
It's been quite a year with a lot of music, but I'd call it worth it, wouldn't you? I'd call my favorite part of the year the A to Z challenge, but that's just me. If you missed that be sure to check out all the posts in April, that's when it happened.
However long you've been following me I'd just like to thank you for it. It means a lot to log in and see that a pst has another couple views on it, or that there's a comment. Thank you all.
Alright, now the music.
Artist: Joe Satriani
Genre: Instrumental, Metal, Rock, Guitar
I'm really not 100% sure how to classify Satriani and I don't feel like googling it. He does some straight up jaw dropping playing though and is well worth watching play live. Take a second and look up some of his videos from the G3 tours where he plays with Steve Via and a third guitarist. It's always really good.
This song is just an instrumental, but even if that's not your cup of tea check it out. It's only a little over 2 minutes long and a really fun listen.
Artist: Biggie Smalls
Genre: Hip Hop, Rap
Language: Strong
I got turned on to this song a little while ago from a friend of mine. When she was showing my that song Old Thing Back my friend Cassie also introduced me to Biggie in general.
This is a really nice song. The bass line is terrific and in general Biggie is just a good rapper. You know, hence the fact that he's famous.
I find it interesting that no mater how hard I try I just can't seem to get away from posting a metal song every couple days. This is mostly made worse by the fact that my other favorite genre is Rap and A. That's as bad or worse or B. I have to re-use artists more cause I'm not as familiar.
This though, this is the band of Mikael Ã…kerfeldt. Well not just him, it was basically a Finland super group that was huge in the metal world from about 98 to 2004.
Ã…kerfeldt is the primary force behind the band Opeth if you've heard of them. Unfortunately he isn't able to keep up with the screaming anymore so he's moved away from this kind of sound.
Before any long time readers judge me for only posting from this one Muse album you'll need to forgive me. Sometimes a band catches my eye, sometimes just a song does. In this case it was just a song, so the other stuff I know is off the album the song is from. I have a rule about bands, I try to never just get a single song, I try to get the full album to see if there's anything else I like.
As it is, I don't care for some of Muse's stuff, so I'll stick with the songs that I know I like.
So I have this game I really enjoy called Hotline Miami. This is a game about killing people in a really nifty bunch of ways and such in a top down pixel view.
I'm not trying to sell you on the game, though it is a straight up fantastic thing, I'm just trying to sell you on the soundtrack.
The soundtrack is a mess of crazy electronic music that really lends to the feeling the game is trying to give. Each level has a song picked that fits the feel for each area and helps create a hectic atmosphere.
This song in particular is probably one of my favorites in the game, so I do hope you enjoy it.
Band: Iron Maiden
Genre: Metal
Themes: Death row prisoner contemplating life
I just realized the other day that I posted a cover of this song before I posted the original. Oops.
Hey, it's a really good song though that I love a lot. That could really be said of almost every single song on this blog though, so I suppose it's a bigger deal when I say I don't like a song.
There's a lot of bands that I really love and have enjoyed for years that I haven't posted yet and I don't know why. Stuff that I used to listen to all the time that just kinda got phased out of my regular listening thing.
I'm gonna try to remember to get that stuff back in rotation.
So not to be confused with Meshuggah that I posted yesterday, Meshugga Beach Party is a jewish surf group. Certain bands just fill that little hole that you didn't even know was missing and these guys are definitely one of them.
Basically the only stuff they have on YouTube is live videos from other people recording, but if for any reason you want to listen to more they do have a three albums that you can check out on Spotify.
I bet you didn't know you needed a band that all dress up as Rabbi in your life, did you?
You know what I love most about Meshuggah? The singer's face. Look at that face. He makes it everywhere, at every show, and it's become a joke in the metal community. A good joke though, not a bad joke.
When Wolf Of Wall Street came out there's a scene in the middle where Leo DiCaprio's character makes the face. There's a video that somebody made that puts the scene with the face backed by some Meshuggah song.
I got to see these guys in concert when I saw Alice In Chains, they put on a fantastic show. They were only one of the opening bands, but it still sounded sick. The singer's curly hair was blowing all over the place and they had a great sense of energy.
Also this song is good. It used to get played on the radio a lot.
You might hate the singer's voice, but I love it so I don't really care how you feel about it.
Band: Nightwish
Genre: Power Metal, Symphonic Metal
This, as I have mentioned before, is a very good band. The video on the other hand, is nothing short of hilarious.
You see, when Nightwish got their new singer a lot of the fans said that they picked her just to have a pretty face up there in front of everybody. To counter that Nightwish released a music video where all the members of the band had been replaced by women.
I think it's funny at least.
The video claims it's not there, but if you click on it it will play.
Did you know that Beyonce's birthday was on Friday? I did cause Facebook told me.
To celebrate we played this song at work for a solid 20 or 30 minutes. To be honest I never really listen to Beyonce, but I suppose there's a first time for everything, eh?
Apologies for this being so late to go live, I feel asleep last night in the middle of finishing it. Curse long work days, amirite?
Artist: The Weeknd
Genre: R&B, Rap
Language: Strong
Themes: Drugs and stuff
Sorry for being late guys, as you might have seen in my picture I'm a little wiped out this week. Had a lot of stuff happening yesterday and I forgot to write a post.
So a guy at work noticed that I seem to be on a rap kick recently as opposed to the metal thing I usually do and he gave me a list of songs. This was the first thing he gave me and I think it's really catchy so I'm sharing it with you. Hope you enjoy it!
Side not, the song has great bass so you want either good speakers or headphones to listen properly.
Hey guys. Yes, I'm as tired as I look. No, I'm not deathly greyish pale. I'm not sure why, but my phone automatically washes out a lot of reds. My hair is currently more vibrant than that, think brighter with black in it. Less brown.
Also yes, as I write this I'm falling asleep on the floor at church waiting for practice to start. Got a great spotify playlist going with a bunch of songs I enjoy going though, so that's nice. I call it my "Enjoyable" list cause I enjoy all the songs.
That's all unimportant though, cause these posts are supposed to have interesting things that I want to brag about without bragging to people in real life.
It's been an eventful bit of time actually, I got a cool new project at work and I started on the sound team at a young adults group I'm a part of. We meet every Tuesday and I'm gonna be doing it every other week or so I think.
The new project is a redesign of the break room, which promises to be really fun. Got some sick ideas already, but I also have to convince the leadership team to be cool with it on Friday, so there's that.
So here's the song.
Artist: Avicii
Song: Wake Me Up
Genre: Electro House, Folktronica
I realized recently that I've never actually posted and regular Metallica. This seems like a travesty considering I've posted a cover, and alternate version, and that I've made it clear that I really like metal.
Hey, sorry. Here's a really good song off of the first album though, so enjoy!
