A good instrumental song can be a little hard to come by, but I think Ghost released a really good one without sacrificing their sound in any major way.

Sure, you could argue that missing out on the harmonized vocals is a major part of the whole show, but instead we get this fantastic saxophone solo, that would appear to be from everybody's favorite Ghost lore side character, Papa Emeritus Zero.  At least that's what they set it up like live, so that's fun, right?

Dr Dre - The Watcher (Instrumental)

So I'm freaking pumped right now because I found out recently that Spotify has the instrumental tracks of Dr Dre's entire "2001" album.  Like, for real, this is great.  I plan on using these as background music all the freaking time, it's great for working too and such and stuff, ya know?

I'm just happy that this exists though.  I know it was probably just a money making attempt by Dre back in the day that surfaced on Spotify again or something, I just think it's cool how he actually put it out in the first place.  I can't think of many people just putting out all their beats in just an album, ya know?

Rob Scallon - Theater Girl

I've got no clue what to classify Rob s honestly.  Unless I have vocals I honestly really have a hard time guessing by myself.  Usually I'll go to Wiki for more difficult bands but since Rob is a YouTube musician he seems not to have an entry.

Here's Rob though, the obnoxiously good guitarist.

One of the things that Rob does is take instruments like the 8 stringed guitar and use them for their non intended purposes.  Let's be real here, the only reason people would buy an 8 stringed guitar up till recently is because it's pretty much just for Metal music.

Well Rob has managed to get whatever this classifies as and Funk stuff going down with an 8 string, slightly changing the stereotype of what 8 strings can be used for.

Mortal Treason - Best Case Scenario

I almost fell asleep without writing this post, but I didn't.  I went to see the new X-Men movie and that held me up a little bit.  It was pretty good, but honestly it ran like all the other X movies.  The whole movie is basically the phrase "The strong should protect the weak, don't abuse your power, and be tolerant."  I like the movies still, but I can't say that they're my favorite.

This song is pretty good though.  It's not often you get a Deathcore act that does and instrumental track with a cello, now is it.

Joe Satriani - A Celebration

1 year!  YES!  Uninterrupted music (with the exception of forgetting to share the link on G+ or the occasional late post) for 365 days!  Grand total of 365 songs, though one was a repeat on my birthday.  I was going to post that Kool & The Gang song today, but I posted that sometime last year.  Curse me for not thinking ahead.

It's been quite a year with a lot of music, but I'd call it worth it, wouldn't you?  I'd call my favorite part of the year the A to Z challenge, but that's just me.  If you missed that be sure to check out all the posts in April, that's when it happened.

However long you've been following me I'd just like to thank you for it.  It means a lot to log in and see that a pst has another couple views on it, or that there's a comment.  Thank you all.

I'm really not 100% sure how to classify Satriani and I don't feel like googling it.  He does some straight up jaw dropping playing though and is well worth watching play live.  Take a second and look up some of his videos from the G3 tours where he plays with Steve Via and a third guitarist.  It's always really good.

This song is just an instrumental, but even if that's not your cup of tea check it out.  It's only a little over 2 minutes long and a really fun listen.

Mogwai - May Nothing But Happiness Come Through Your Door

I started reading a webcomic recently titled Questionable Content (it's really good, don't let the name scare you fro whatever reason) in which the main character is a dude who's super into indie music.  I don't remember what most of the bands they talk about are, but on a poster in the background was the name Mogwai.  I remembered hearing that name somewhere, so I decided to look them.

Low and behold I found a really good sounding band that functions great as background music!

I'm only gonna like to this one song picked at random, but the rest of the album it's from is very enjoyable.  Very laid back and cool.

So even though nobody actually answered I've gone ahead and decided to implement some sort of early warning system so you don't have to worry about what the music I'm about to show you is.  Probably a sort of genre/style bio up at the top under the picture.

Thelonious Monk - Straight, No Chaser (Album)

EDIT:  I really feel bad, cause I accidentally released this on October 24th when I was writing it and people were trying to read it during the "Week Of Evil".  Sorry if that was you!

Ok, back to the real thing.

You know what's really nice?  Jazz.  I like jazz.  But not crappy jazz.  If there's a girl singing, then she'd better leave right away or else that band hits my list of "I don't like it".

So other than Fats Waller and Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk is one of my top jazz acts to listen to.  Despite the fact that I've only just started recently listening to them, the band quickly climbed my list of jazz favorites for one good reason.  No singing.

While I like some "singing jazz", I really feel like it distracts me from the music I'm trying to enjoy.  Either way though, instrumental; music is a really nice thing to have on in the background no matter what you're doing.
