Lamb Of God - Laid To Rest

Band:  Lamb Of God
Genre:  Groove Metal, Metalcore, Thrash Metal
Language:  Strong (censored)

And at long last we finally get to the last band of my top 10 list.

Like I said before, this list was in no particular order which is why there were some of the heavier bands earlier in the list as well as later on.  I didn't really want to rate them all like that, but if you want me to I can link to a Spotify playlist with them in what I would consider to be a decently good order.

I didn't know if I would include these guys on my list or not honestly because while they're heavy enough, I feel like a lot of people don't think of them that way.  They don't tune low so they can't cheat that way, and they don't play slow to create the impression of heaviness there either.

But despite these facts I added them because they qualify, in my opinion, to be on this list.

Listen to the breakdown in this song.  It's one note.  Just one note repeated for like 20 seconds or whatever.  Most times I would say that that's a really boring breakdown (like this) but these guys manage to not only pull it off, but keep the rest of their material to the same level.

I also absolutely love Randy Blythe's vocal work.  He's a freaking beast and a huge inspiration to me.  I know I'm not likely to ever be able to sound like him, but it's a goal anyway.

Enjoy the last song of the Top 10 Heaviest list, Laid To Rest.

Impending Doom - My Own Maker

Band:  Impending Doom
Genre:  Deathcore

So here's another Deathcore band.  Like I said before I really did try to avoid them just because the whole schtick of Deathcore is to have a really loud, low, crushing sound and if I really wanted to I could probably justify more than half this list being filled with them.

I didn't do that though, I gave you variety.  Worship me.

Get it?  It's funny cause I'm calling this a variety even though I'm sure most of you all just are listening to this thinking, "Wow, htis all sounds the same.  And it sucks."

I can live with this though.

One of the things that's cool about this song is the high lead just kinda there to remind you how much lower the rest of it is.  Also this is one of my favorite bands, hence getting their logo tattooed on my body.

Portal Ω Curtain

Band:  Portal Ω
Genre:  Death Metal, Extreme Metal

I  posted this song a while ago, but I just couldn't resist popping my favorite clock headed band in my top 10 list.

This song is a nightmare of noise.  I wouldn't say that automatically qualifies it for top 10 status though, so you've gotta go deeper.

The music itself just sounds oppressively evil in a way that's hard to explain.  The video lends to it, sure, but it's more than that.  The deep sounds that it has, the growling, the minor key, it all lends to a song that's just crushingly depressing in a wonderful way.

Please enjoy Portal.

Meshuggah - Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion

Band:  Meshuggah
Genre:  Djent, Progressive Metal

Other than having an absurdly long title this song is also really heavy.  Meshuggah is a bit of a front runner in really low tunings, way back in the day they got the some of the earlier 7 string guitars.

In their quest to tune lower they also have managed to gain a place in almost everybody's heaviest band lists.  I tried to avoid doing that with my choices and more going with personal opinion, but there's some people I can't ignore.  Almost everybody has Sunn O))) on their list, but I honestly thing that their heaviness aspect come's more from their shows that are loud enough to demolish buildings more than the actual music.  It's a little too stripped down to make my list for me.

Meshuggah on the other hand has earned their spot, and they shall have it.

Job for A Cowboy - Entombment Of A Machine

Band:  Job For A Cowboy
Genre:  Death Metal, Technical Death Metal

So these guys were kinda an early Deathcore band, but not really.  The lines between their music and the Deathcore scene at the time were a little blurred, but once they put out a full album they switched fully to Death Metal.

Hands down the coolest part of this song is a break in the beginning where the song cuts and there's just this high scream.  When they play it live they get the whole crowd to do it and it's legitimatly jaw dropping to see them pull it off.

There's other really cool parts to the song as well, but that's the one that stands out to me the most.

Bloodbath - So You Die

Band:  Bloodbath
Genre:  Death Metal
Language:  Once, Strong

As far as Metal goes, there's a really huge selection of bands that vary in how heavy they are vs how musically talented they sound.

Deathcore for example has huge breakdowns that will crush your soul with the build and drop if done properly, but a lot of people complain that their use of low guitar tunings is all that they really have going.

Then you have Death Metal bands like Cannibal Corpse who are at the top of a lot of people's "heaviest bands" list with their guitars tuned only a half step down from your standard tuning.

When it comes down to it you can only BS your way so far with low tunings to fake heavy music before you get shown up by a song that's just well executed.

Here though is a wonderful example of both low tunings and great execution.

I love how the guitars sound here, they have a really dirty tone going on that is so abrasive it's beautiful mixing with one of the most crushingly brutal vocalists ever to enter the game.

It's fast paced, it's heavy, and it's brutal.  All the things that people want from a Death Metal song.

Hey look, probably the longest post I've written in a while.

Septicflesh - Titan

Band:  Septicflesh (Septic Flesh)
Genre:  Symphonic Death Metal

These guys may not seem as heavy as some of the other bands I've already posted, but I assure you they have their moments.  I'm sure you're wondering how I could possible count them here since they have that backing symphony (the Prague Philharmonic), but I assure you they manage to hold their own place with the rest of this list.

The thing I love most about this song is the stark contrast between the choir and the harsh vocals and the symphony and the guitars.  It's really quite cool to listen to, so even if you don't want to listen to any of the rest of this week check out this song.  Or even this song.

Black Tongue - In The Wake Ov The Wolf

Band:  Black Tongue
Genre:  Deathcore (Doomcore)

I wasn't sure if I should include these guys or not since it's another Deathcore band and I've got another one I'm gonna be posting too, but I couldn't resist how crushingly heavy these guys sound is.

They play in a stupidly low tuning that makes all of their already heavy music just sound a lot heavier.  It's all big and Doom-y sounding so a lot of people call them Doomcore.  Honestly they're mostly just Deathcore, but you can call them whatever you want I suppose.

Day 3 of this, how ya'll fairing?

Party Cannon - Tyrone, You Put That Sugar Down

Band:  Party Cannon
Genre:  Slam Death

You can't tell me that this isn't one of the best covers to an album ever.  It's freaking hilarious.

So this is a Slam Death band called Party Cannon (as I'm sure you could figure out) from Scotland.  Their music is so freaking nasty that I couldn't help but put them on the list, ya know?  It's heavy, it's noisy, it's just really great all around.

Hope you like it, but I bet you won't, haha

Cannibal Corpse - Evisceration Plague

Band:  Cannibal Corpse
Genre:  Death Metal

Hey, it's time for our Top 10 Heaviest list!

Now I'm gonna disclaimer before this starts, this is all personal opinion.  If I stayed in certain genres I could find heavier stuff than this, but this is limited to the stuff that I listen to for the most part, so we'll have to deal, eh?

There's no particular order to this list since there were a couple that I couldn't decide on their place in the cue, so I'm just gonna throw 10 bands at you and you can pick what you think the order should be.

So Cannibal Corpse.  Not too many ways you can argue about these guys being heavy as all crap, right?  They have a pretty crushing sound and they don't even down tune their guitars that much like a lot of the other bands on this list do.  I hope you enjoy this song and list, cause it only get's better (personal opinion) from here.
