Album Review: Impending Doom - The Sin And Doom Vol. II

Band: Impending Doom
Album: The Sin And Doom Vol. II
Genre: Deathcore
Rating:  8.5/10

First off, apologies for this not getting to y'all till 7 am, I'm usually better than this.  Just got home from work though, which highlights why I need to get back in the habit of writing up posts a day or so in advance, haha

This is a very good album, but it's not the best that Impending Doom has put out.  I would go so far to say that it's the second best, but that's my personal preference talking, I happened to enjoy Baptized In Filth the most.

The album is really quite solid, with a lot of tracks I feel stand apart from their regular sound.  Some  of my personal favorites are Everything's Fake, War Music, Run For Your Life (She Calls), and The Serpents Tongue. The thing about Impending Doom though are their  fantastic breakdowns.  This album has some fantastic ones in it, though off the top of my head I can't remember the specific songs that I had stand out to me outside of the riffs in Unbroken, another fantastic track.

I stand by what I said about Everything's Fake too, I know some people I know were saying it sounded too generic, but I liked it a lot.  That's what I'm saying about the album though, it's maybe not the most creative work they've done, but it's super tight and appropriately heavy.  I'm a fan at least.  Honestly if you're a fan of Deathcore it'll probably be a hit for ya.

I'll try and expand on this after I've gotten a couple hours of sleep, I'll get back to ya.

Impending Doom - Everything's Fake [New Release]

Band:  Impeding Doom
Song:  Everything's Fake
Album:  The Sin and Doom VOL. II
Genre:  Deathcore

Now as a heads up, Impending Doom features in the nostalgia theme as well, so you're gonna see them in the next week or so again.  I try not to do this, but since this is their new single and I missed the last one cause of the A to Z, we're gonna feature this up.

Now I love Impending Doom.  They were my first Deathcore band, and they're still one of the best Deathcore acts I've ever had the fortune to listen to.  I've preordered their last 3 albums, so you could say I'm a bit of a fan.

I'm very pleased to announce that this song holds up incredibly well to the strong discography that Impending Doom has released to this point.  It's wonderfully aggressive, it's got amazing breakdowns, and it has a dope music video as well.  I fully sign off on having this be the hot new Impending Doom sound.

Impending Doom - Death. Ascension. Resurrection.

Band:  Impending Doom
Song:  Death. Ascension. Resurrection.
Album:  Baptised In Filth
Genre:  Deathcore

Here's the best way for a Christian band to do well though, do they know what genre they are playing?

There's a lot of Christian acts that don't know where their sound is supposed to be.  Like, I would be pissed if I went to see an Impending Doom show and it turned into a conventional worship set.  I'd love to hear it happen cause I feel like they'd have a really cool take on a lot of the music, but at the same time that's not what I paid to see.

This isn't really an issue in the Christian Metal community, but a lot of the Rock acts will sometimes slip stuff like that in.  I'm reasonably convinced that there will never really be any good Christian Rock because of stuff like this.  There's a huge difference between a whorship act and a Rock act, and those boundries need to be respected for a band to be a solid crossover.

In the Hardcore community there's basically no cares about whether a band is religious or not.  The fans are solidly of the opinion that if the music is good they'll be happy.

Look at Impending Doom again as my example.  Their lyrics are incredibly obviously religious from the very beginning, but since musically they are one of the titans of Deathcore nobody really cares.

The musical quality majorly affects how I judge the band.  For the most part Christian Rock can be picked out of a lineup really easily, so anything that helps separate them from the masses is a win in my book.

On the band though, they're almost done recording a new album and I'm really freaking pumped.  I have their logo tattooed into my skin, so you could say I'm a bit of a fan.  It's supposed to drop this year, so look out for an album review of that one for sure.

Impending Doom - Nailed. Dead. Risen

Band:  Impending Doom
Genre:  Deathcore

So I rather like this song.  In fact, I have the title and logo tattooed on my arm.  #Devotion

I was straight up terrified of these guys the first time I heard them.  Like, holy crap.  The sound was way too intense for me and I kinda set them off to the side.

I remember my friend had called them Death Metal so for the longest time I was under the impression that Deathcore and Death Metal were the same things.  They aren't, for those of you who don't know.  Here's a bit of a funny example of the difference.

It's a solid song though, once you're into the style you'll realize it.  Honestly this album is a lot more like a Grind album in a lot of ways, but we're still gonna call it Deathcore cause that's what the main pull is.

Impending Doom - My Own Maker

Band:  Impending Doom
Genre:  Deathcore

So here's another Deathcore band.  Like I said before I really did try to avoid them just because the whole schtick of Deathcore is to have a really loud, low, crushing sound and if I really wanted to I could probably justify more than half this list being filled with them.

I didn't do that though, I gave you variety.  Worship me.

Get it?  It's funny cause I'm calling this a variety even though I'm sure most of you all just are listening to this thinking, "Wow, htis all sounds the same.  And it sucks."

I can live with this though.

One of the things that's cool about this song is the high lead just kinda there to remind you how much lower the rest of it is.  Also this is one of my favorite bands, hence getting their logo tattooed on my body.

Impending Doom - Doomsday

Band:  Impending Doom
Genre:  Deathcore
Themes:  The Apocalypse

I promise this is the last Deathcore I'll post for a little while but I wanted to end on the best Deathcore band I know, Impending Doom.

This song is really crushingly heavy and because of that, I love it unconditionally.  I have yet to be disappointed by this band, though you all probably won't like them.  Hey, I apologize.  Still, it's my thing and I can't expect all of you to enjoy it as much as I do.

Funny thing time, these guys are a Christian Deathcore band.  Seems like a contradiction, but whatever.

Impending Doom - Death Will Reign

I'm gonna try to post more songs that a lot of people like this week, but this one has been stuck in my head for the last 3 days and I figure this is one of the only ways to get it out.

Stuff like this is what helps me get through really long/tough weeks.  The last 2 weeks combined I worked 101.3 hours and not gonna lie, I'm hurting from it.  Impending Doom, Lamb Of God, and Tech N9ne are what get me through the day though, and if you're into this kind of music then here's a wonderfully crushing song to kill each work day to.

Impending Doom - There Will Be Violence

#TheWeekNoahIsOutOfTown

Impending Doom is a game that you have heard before if you followed this blog back in October, but I figured that it's time for a reprise because it's been like a freaking long time.

I've said most of what I had to say about them before, but since then I actually got some super freaking cool news!  On of my favorite games, Killing Floor, is releasing a sequel, and it has a pile of songs from bands I love.  There's a couple from Demon Hunter and like 3 from Impending Doom.  It's gonna be awesome.

Impending Doom - Baptized In Filth

Quick clarification, this is the American Impending Doom, not the German one.

So these guys started out as a Death Grind band and while they weren't bad (as Death Grind goes) I wasn't really a huge fan of them.  Still though, they have really evolved at this point to one of the better Deathcore bands I've heard.

With each album their sound has gotten more refined and heavier and lyrically they're really solid.

Also on this album they have a song that has Ryan Clark of Demon Hunter singing on it.
