Elton John - Tiny Dancer

Artist:  Elton John
Song:  Tiny Dancer
Album:  Madman Across The Water
Genre:  Pop Rock

Well I was originally searching for a song that made me think of the 80s, but now I got Elton John stuck in my head and it kinda switched course from what I had intended.

So I figured I'd go with some of my favorite Elton John songs, which honestly this one isn't exactly one of them.  I like it, but the novelty of the chorus of Crocodile Rock really beats this one out really hard.  And I mean, realistically, I'm sure none of you are surprised that I don't really listen to much of Elton's music.

The reason I chose this song though is I was really surprised to see a music video that had been shot in widescreen, especially since the song was released back in 71.  No widescreen music videos back then.  Turns out the video got released this year and is actually really cool.  The colorization makes it look like a slightly older video, which is dope.  Is a cool thing, I hope ya like it.

Aerosmith - Dude (Looks Like A Lady)

Band:  Aerosmith
Song:  Dude (Looks Like A Lady)
Album:  Permanent Vacation
Genre:  Classic Rock

I suppose it's only right that since I posted a Mötley Crüe song I should follow it up with a song that's actually, according to rumors at release and Nikki Sixx's book, is about the singer from Crüe.

Like, the whole song is just kinda funny if you only look at the lyrics.  Steven Tyler tryna get some, but then it turns out to be a dude, and he's surprised.  Like, really super shocked.  Not sure how he didn't see it coming, but honestly he kinda looks like a chick himself from time to time so who knows.

Then you get to add the fun of the song actually being about Crüe's singer.  The urban legend of it is that Steven Tyler accidentally tried to hook up with him after a concert, and while that really sounds like a much better story, the actual facts of the mater are less fun.  I'm not gonna type it out, but you can check the Wiki yourself to see the info.

Catchy song though, so have fun!

Andy Mineo - The Saints

Artist:  Andy Mineo
Song:  The Saints
Album:  Heroes
Genre:  Rap, Hip Hop

For the longest time this song was one of my go to songs on a playlist I have for a young adults group I'm a part of.  It's high energy while also easing it's way in enough to pull in from a down moment in the service into the higher energy end that kinda moves people out of the building.

Also it's just a well performed piece of music.  The beat is solid and Andy's flow doesn't disappoint either.  Always a solid time.

Mötley Crüe - Dr. Feelgood

Band:  Mötley Crüe
Song:  Dr. Feelgood
Album:  Dr. Feelgood
Genre:  Glam Metal

One of my coworkers asked me to just shuffle Crüe's discography the other night.  I haven't decided if I'm greatful for him reminding me I enjoyed a chunk of their stuff, or if I'm annoyed he's dragging on the 80s kick that Steel Panther put me on.

Either way, here's one of the most classic songs they put out.  I hope it bugs you, cause I'm not super pumped about the string of music that might be coming soon, haha

Bravura - Battle Of The Suns

Band:  Bravura
Song:  Battle Of The Suns
Album:  Battle Of The Suns
Genre:  Blackened Death Metal
Bandcamp:  bravurabandofficial.bandcamp.com

Yo, my dudes in Bravura dropped a music video on Saturday!

These guys released a fantastic album a month or so ago that I really loved.  I was gonna post some stuff from it, but I figured I'd wait till they released a music video cause I knew it was coming sooner than later.

So first off, the video is great.  It's honestly really freaking good.  I loved it.

Second.  The song is amazing.  The guitar leads are freaking tight and the whole band clearly works well together.  I've got huge bass player envy for their bassist too, he plays way too fast and I'm never gonna be able to match that.

Then there's Steve's vocals.  This isn't the best example of what I'm about to say, but you can buy the album for cheap or stream it to check what I mean.  But his vocal work just sounds straight up painful.  Like, I don't know what he does to himself, but he just rips out this horrendous raspy wonderful noise and can still talk like a normal human outside of the band.  Mad respect my man, that's intense.

Check it guys, and check the rest of the album too, it's solid work.

Pop Evil - Boss's Daughter

Band:  Pop Evil
Song:  Boss's Daughter
Album:  War Of Angels
Genre:  Hard Rock

I'm really confused as to whether Mick Mars is actually playing on this track or if he's only featured in the video.  Like, some of the riffs sound like he could have played them but he's def not playing in the video, so who even knows.

Of course, by who even knows I actually mean I just don't have the patience to search hard enough to find our since it's way too late at night for me to be up on a saturday night.

It's a really catchy song though, I found it on my 80s Metal streak that Steel Panther put me on a couple weeks ago.  Hope ya like it, eh?

Metalachi - Sweet Child O' Mine

Band:  Metalachi
Song:  Sweet Child O' Mine
Album:  Uno
Genre:  Mariachi

Fringe music is always fun to check out from time to time, right?

Now while I don't always listen to stuff like Mariachi music almost ever, it's a freaking blast to find from time to time.  Also, cover songs?  A blast.

I decided to pick this one as our showcase for today (even though I was more amused by the Megadeth cover), because this one reminded me more of traditional Mariachi vibe.  I dunno, it's fun to listen to, yeah?  I don't even know how I found these guys even, it just happened to come up somewhere.

Wednesday 13 - Blood Sick

Band:  Wednesday 13
Song:  Blood Sick
Album:  Blood Sick (Single)
Genre:  Horror Punk, Metal

Unrelated to this song at all, I'm helping host a small music event tonight and I'm rather pumped about it.  Managed to book 4 acts for it.  I had hoped for a couple more, but this'll do fine I suppose.  They're all really solid people, so it'll be a good time for sure.

Aight, so this song.

Turns out this is one of the new singles W13 put out for their new album.  I heard it in some concert promo video they put out a little bit ago and fell in love with that discordant guitar line in the intro and chorus stuff.  So freaking good.  It's an effect that can go wrong really easily and I'm glad that these guys managed to pull it off well here.

Check it out, it's not too bad.

Travi$ Scott - Drugs You Should Try It

Artist:  Travis Scott (stylized Travi$)
Song:  Drugs You Should Try It
Album:  Days Before Rodeo
Genre:  Rap, R&B

Everybody loves those super sad depressing songs just a little bit, right?

A friend of mine has tried to direct me toward Travis Scott for ages now and I'm gonna be honest, I'm not a huge fan of most of his music.  His recent album may be one of the best produced things, but his other stuff isn't super great in my opinion.

But this album is freaking dope.  Days Before Rodeo, while not all the tracks are great, a good few of them are solid as all crap.

I find this song to be special since most of the beat is a guitar line.  It's kinda haunting, I love it.

Alice In Chains - Man In The Box

Band:  Alice In Chains
Song:  Man In The Box
Album:  Facelift
Genre:  Grunge
Language:  Mild

The vocal work on this song always gives me chills when it kicks in.  Layne Staley is such a fantastic vocalist, but unfortunately he fell victim to the problem that hit a lot of singers in Grunge bands.  He died of a heroin overdose.

They have some songs that kinda showcase what he was struggling with.  Songs like Sludge Factory, Hate To Feel, and Junkhead showcase a lot of what he was going through.  Just one of those things, ya know, there's always some sort of sign.  Of course, this was one of the kings of the Grunge scene, realistically he wasn't about to stop.  But hey, food for thought.

Always loved this song though.  It's really chunky in the way the drums and rhythm guitar groove together, and then when the vocals hit singing along with the lead guitar it just becomes that much better.  Check it out.

Tupac - Hail Mary

Artist:  Tupac
Song:  Hail Mary
Album:  The Don Killuminati
Genre:  Rap, Hip Hop
Language:  Strong

So technically this was after he switched over to his new name, Makaveli, but we're gonna just go with calling him Pac still cause he only had the one album out with this name before he died.

I'm pretty bummed out about his movie.  I was gonna go see it, but then all of his friends kept trashing the movie for not being accurate and I'm not sure I'm gonna check it out now.  The comfort of the situation though is that his music is still freaking solid.

Enjoy Hail Mary all, the song that was accidentally printed out for a church in South America last year as a singalong for their Christmas Eve service.  Good times, eh?

Steel Panther - Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World

Band:  Steel Panther
Song:  Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World
Album:  All You Can Eat
Genre:  Glam Metal
Language:  Some, mostly the content.

I'm actually really mad at myself for liking Steel Panther.  Like, really mad at myself.

Not mad enough to not enjoy it though, so let's kick it with the most lewd rock band I've ever listened to.

I've got this soft spot for 80s Hair Metal, but honestly I don't like many of the bands of the era.  My issue always was they didn't really hold my attention.  Imma be honest, a lot of that was because of the production.  It's a picky thing to say, but I really love well produced music and a lot of bands of the era didn't have access to what they needed to really sound great.

Also there's the fact that Steel Panther sings exclusively about sex, drugs, and Rock 'n Roll.  That's dope.

Soundgarden - Rusty Cage

Band:  Soundgarden
Song:  Rusty Cage
Album:  Badmotorfinger
Genre:  Grunge

Right here is a band I need to listen to more.  Not just cause Chris Cornell died, but because they are also legitimately good.  One of the best ways to get myself to do that is to post the band's songs here, so when I want to listen to somebody, bad news, you're gonna listen to them too.

It's a solid song though on a really solid album, so I'm sure you can put up with that, yeah?  Have fun peeps.

The Showdown - Achilles

Band:  The Showdown
Song:  Achilles (The Backbreaker)
Album:  Back Breaker
Genre:  Southern Metal

I really miss this band.  They broke up a few years back and I wish they would get back together.

But hey, at least I have 4 albums to listen to, right?  I never really listened to it as much as Blood In The Gears, but that doesn't make it bad at all.  The whole thing has a heavy greek mythology vibe to it that's kinda cool to read while you listen.

Slipknot - Surfacing

Band:  Slipknot
Song:  Surfacing
Album:  Slipknot
Genre:  Nu-Metal
Language:  Strong

This is one of Slipknot's best live songs hands down.  The way they get the crowd going is just straight up psychotic.  Here's a live video to check out, it's fantastic.

I've always loved this song though ever since I bought this album.  It was a big deal in my opinion since Slipknot was such an edgy band for me at the time, but I managed to get over that and really just enjoy what the band had to offer.

Not to say this first record isn't a little weird.  There's a couple songs that creep me out a little bit toward the end, but that doesn't detract from how solid the album as a whole is.  Hope ya dig the song.

Soilwork - Follow The Hollow

Band:  Soilwork
Song:  Follow The Hollow
Album:  Natural Born Chaos
Genre:  Melodic Death Metal
Language:  Brief, Strong

This was my favorite song off of my first Soilwork album.  I remember somebody had told me that they were really good and as was my habit at the time, I just went out and bought one of their albums.  If you actually want to learn more about bands that's a really solid habit by the way.  It get's you way more experience with the band than just listening to singles will give ya and you might be able to get your hipster self on by finding one of those hidden gem tracks.

I really dig this song though.  It grooves really solid much in the way as a lot of Soilwork's music does, but also has a hard edge...  As Soilwork's music does, haha

Slayer - Payback

Band:  Slayer
Song:  Payback
Album:  God Hates Us All
Genre:  Thrash Metal
Language:  Strong

If you payed attention to the links I dropped on The Fine Constant's post the other day, then you might have listened to a second or two of the ukelele cover of this song.  I honestly enjoy that cover a lot more than the original.  The sheer novelty of it is just fantastic.  But...  I mean, you can't listen to a cover and not at least kinda check out the original, right?

It's a fairly standard Slayer song though, so enjoy what you will with it.
