It's been a little while since I shared a Slayer song, and considering they're on their farewell tour it seems appropriate to highlight them a little.

These guys are a band I had never planned on enjoying.  If I had my way I'd probably have never listened to them for whatever preconceived notion I had about them.  It's probably cause I didn't care for Raining Blood honestly.

But this song is mad dark and gloomy, and some of their other stuff is the kinda of Thrash I can get in to.  They were worth my time, and I'm really glad I was able to enjoy them as long as I have been able to.

Slayer - Hand Of Doom

Speaking of NIB II, I looked into it a bit.  While on my prefered streaming service it might be hard, it looks like the only song that it's actually hard to find is Primus' cover of the actual song NIB.  If you search it on Google actually you can see that my post about the song is one of the only locations you can actually play the song.  Hype hype hype!  Honestly I just managed to find it maybe 5 or 6 pages into my Google search, so it wasn't that hard to find.  But yeah, now I'm the number 2 search for it.

But yeah, outside of a really dope Primus cover, there's two major standout tracks for me on this album.  There's SoaD's cover of Snowblind, and there's Slayer's cover of Hand of Doom.

I'll be honest, it took me a bit to appreciate this cover.  It, like Pantera's cover of Electric Funeral, is very very true to the original.  So much so that you might get disappointed by it if you were hoping for a screaming Slayer style song.

The more you listen to it though the more you start to really enjoy what they did to it.  They didn't change the style of the song, but they did manage to produce a much darker tone that the original didn't quite convey.  The drums were slightly more expressive, and the addition of a second guitar helped elevate the song to a wonderful new level.

Slayer - Payback

If you payed attention to the links I dropped on The Fine Constant's post the other day, then you might have listened to a second or two of the ukelele cover of this song.  I honestly enjoy that cover a lot more than the original.  The sheer novelty of it is just fantastic.  But...  I mean, you can't listen to a cover and not at least kinda check out the original, right?

It's a fairly standard Slayer song though, so enjoy what you will with it.

Slayer - World Painted Blood

So I'm not really sure what's drawn me to slayer recently.  I used to really not like them since all of their songs are like, the same, but I'm really starting to appreciate them a lot more than I used to.

There's something about the high energy pummeling that the music turns into that just draws you in, ya know?  I like it.

Slayer - Disciple

Gotta love some good old Slayer, right?  This is probably their most famous song outside of Raining Blood, but I guarantee a lot of the people that know this song don't know the name.  A whole lot of people know the lyric God Hates Us All cause, as pictured above, it's tattooed on Kerry King's arm.  Well it's the name of the album too, but whatever.

The album had some dubious honor though, it was released on September 11, 2001.  Pretty ironic considering the message of the album in general.  Actually I feel like ironic is a really terrible word choice, but that's truly the perfect word for the situation.

But hey, it's still a good song, one of the better Slayer songs.

Slayer - Repentless

There was a lot of controversy with this album when it came out.  You know, not just the usual controversy with a slayer album but an actually bit of controversy in the music end of things.  You see one of Slayer's founding members, Jeff Hanneman, died a little before this album was put out.
Point of interest, he died of a flesh eating disease ironically, which is possibly the most Metal way he could have died.
He had written one song before he died though, and it was supposed to be included on the last album.  Kerry King decided to axe the track.  A lot of fans thought that was majorly uncool since it's the last track Jeff would ever be a part of in Slayer, but it's too late now for anything to change.

There's a rather large amount of violence in this video by the way.  Blood and such.  Danny Trejo is in here though, so that's cool, right?
