Band: Deicide
Genre: Death Metal
Language: Strong
Themes: Satanism
Well here we go, my heavy hitter.
This is the band that bumped Behemoth from the top slot of evil bands I know of since Behemoth is a stage show, and this band (or at least the singer) is legit.
The singer/bass player actually has an inverted cross branded into his forehead. Not tattooed. Branded. He's a really weird fellow.
A lot of people claim that this guy has some killer vocal work, but really on this album at least he just sounds like George Fisher of Cannibal Corpse. Maybe a few years ago he was bigger, but he's not as good as I thought he would be.
Boom, here ends this year's week of evil. I enjoyed it, but I'm guessing you guys probably didn't. Eh, maybe next year.
You know what, I'm gonna save the evil for the end of the week. I'm just gonna back off to the bad rep people who have only slightly passing association with satan. I'm sure you guys will enjoy that more anyway.
Actually This is one of the last days to this. Crap. Tomorrow is the heavy hitter of evil.
Eh, you'll get a straight up fun song for the actual 31st though for what it's worth.
I suppose this is an obvious choice. I'm actually really surprised I didn't post it last year, it's like, hella obvious.
Eh, all good though.
The cover is straight up fantastic actually. You don't lose too much of the Danny Elfman aspect and you manage to gain a load of Manson's influence in it. Actually, it sounds like the kind of music he would write if he was a kids artist.
Good lord that's a terrifying idea. Marilyn Manson making an album with kids songs, but all still in his own style.
I want that to happen so bad now.
Side note, Panic! At The Disco covered this song as well, and it was amazing.
Let's tame things a bit for today with an artist that only really had a pile of controversy around him.
This is a really good song that has fun moments, harmonies, and all around is enjoyable. It's a good intro song to his stuff actually, so if you like this you'd do well to check out some of his other songs.
Views are really down this week, so I get you guys don't care for the stuff that's getting posted. Fear not though, I'll have some fun light hearted music again after the 31st.
Band: Pig Destroyer
Genre: Grindcore
Themes: We're not touching that.
My brother listens to some really weird music. Some of it's really fun, some of it's really weird.
This would fall under the weird area.
As far as Grind bands go, Pig Destroyer is pretty good. Granted, I'm not really familiar with too many bands of the genre, but I still will call them really good.
The song and video are really weird though, so know that going in.
I enjoyed this a lot last year, and even though I accidentally used a lot of my good songs up already I think we can swing this.
I've got some heavy hitters in the evil department coming in towards the end of the week, and some stuff that just sounds dark during other times. I'm pretty excited about this, not gonna lie. It forces me to look for stuff that usually outside of my standard music selection a lot of the time.
Here's Powerwolf again, I thought it would be a decent way to kick off the week.
After listening to the song yesterday I decided to listen to some other albums I have't listened to in a while. Came across "All 6s & 7s" again and was reminded of some of my favorite tracks.
I don't know if this is my favorite song, but it does have some of my favorite moments. I'm not sure what it is, but the one verse just gets me, kinda like yesterday's song.
Give this one a listen too, cause even if you don't like rap you should be able to appreciate the fact that this is a good song.
I'm not sure why I remembered this song existed. I haven't really listened to MGK for a good year or two now, but I happened across this song and it has become my favorite song this week.
If you need a pump up song this is actually a really good one, so be sure to check it out. It's got the right kind of beat, the chorus is catchy, and all around it's just a well produced song. MGK manages to straight up kill the verses too. All in all it's just a song that straight up runs my emotional mood till it's done, which is a good thing.
We played this last night at EYA in a mildly Metalcore style, but with no screaming. Sadness.
It was loads of fun though, and to transition into the week of ivil coming up in a couple days I figured we'd break off Rocktober now. Hope you enjoyed the classic stuff with that Nickelback in the middle. I'll try to do that again some time.
Here's the song for today though, which is a reasonably good thing that I'm sure you'll like.
This song was originally a Bob Dylan song, and is a wonderful example of his work being done better by somebody else.
I'm not sure how much longer I'm gonna do Rocktober. I want to do another "Week Of Evil" soon and I'm running out of song ideas that fit such a limiter theme. I prefer Only having 1 week longs themes honestly.
Ok, fine. Nickelback and ICP are two of my guilty pleasure bands.
When picking Rocktober songs though I decided to pick what would be playing on my local rock station that would be called Rocktober hits. Mostly Classic Rock, but also a lot of stuff like this. Basically anything that is basic Rock.
I like this song a lot though, and I hope you do too.
Band: Black Sabbath
Genre: Classic Metal, Doom Metal
Probably everybody knows Black Sabbath by either their songs War Pigs, Paranoid, or Iron Man.
I'm not gonna lie I straight up love these guys, partially because I can actually play the bass lines in their songs. It's all relatively simple stuff and for the most part it was how I learned how to play. Actually since I didn't have anybody teaching me too much after I learned this I kinda hit a wall for a while. Eh, I still managed to learn more later, it was just hard for a while when you're locked into a pentatonic blues scale.
If you watched through the entire video I linked to in the Rocket Queen post you may remember this song. You may also remember this song if you lived in America any time between 1990 and now.
It's a really thrown together sounding song that is as huge at it is because of both this video and the fact that it's just a bit of a catchy tune. Whatever, enjoy your Rocktober.
Band: Lynyrd Skynyrd
Genre: Classic Rock, Southern Rock
Everybody probably knows this song, Sweet Home Alabama, and Free Bird, but I figured I was gonna post it anyway. #yolo
This whole month is gonna be loaded with a bunch of songs that fall into the Classic Rock department and I can think of nothing more classic that these guys. I hope you enjoy the mess that this month is about to become.
As usual, the music is at the bottom of the wall of text. Skip if you wish.
Me playing bass at EYA
You know what, a lot has happened in the time since we last had a chat post. I've mentioned a couple things here and there, but we're gonna act like I've said nothing and have all the updates in this post.
So I've been running sound at a young adults group called EYA. Facebook link if you're interested. So 3 weeks ago I was running sound for a black gospel band. This was probably the most involved thing I'd done yet since the house band isn't really that big.
Usually I deal with 2 electric guitars, 1 acoustic, drums, a keyboard, a bass, and 2 singers. The gospel group on the other hand had 4 singers, 2 keyboards, a bass, drums, and an electric. The band leader also had some very specific things he wanted me to do with the vocal mixing.
Well it turns out this guy is a kind of big deal in the Cleveland Buffalo Pittsburgh circuit and he was so happy with what I did for him he asked me to travel with them to run sound at all of their shows. You can't tell me that this isn't cool. I'm gonna be actually traveling with this guy and helping make their music sound good.
This is a really funny thing to me, because if you follow the music I post here at all you'll know I'm into Metal, some Rap, and basically anything aggressive and/or guitar-y. In other words, nothing that really screams "Hey, this guy likes Gospel music!" I'm amused by this, so I figured I'd point it out so you could be amused too.
On that vein, I've also started down the path of being a recording engineer and sound producer.
I'm gonna be interning with one of the guys at EYA who owns a studio and used to work with Raven Sound. I hear they're a big deal, and I know that this guy is really good at what he does, so I'm really excited about that.
On the production end of things I've taken the role of temporary producer at church while the current one has some time off.. I'm in charge of making sure the entire event sounds good at looks good, which is something I've been interested in for a while now. I like working at Chick-fil-a and all, but I've been ready to leave it for a while now. All of these things together are, in my mind, the first steps of many to get out into a "real" job.
Wedding day selfie with the groom.
You know what else happened? As you may remember from my post a few days ago, my best friend Matt got married. Honestly this was an emotionally weird time for me since on one hand, Matt was the happiest I've ever seen him but on the other, this was the last member of my graduating class that wasn't married other than me. Now disregarding the fact that I only had a graduating class of 5, it makes me feel really far behind everybody I grew up with. You know what though? It was a fantastic wedding. Even though I wasn't able to get through my full speech cause the maid of honor kinda hit all the same points I did.
Yeah, that's pretty much it. I hope this helps explain why some of my posts have been going up a little late recently, lots of stuff going down.
Music Here
Band: My Chemical Romance
Genre: Punk Rock
Here's something I'm surprised I haven't posted. The song is overplayed, but the band isn't actually too bad. The album is really freaking solid actually. I'll do a legit post for these guys later though where I can actually talk a little more. Enjoy guys, see ya tomorrow.
I continue to enjoy Nachtmahr, despite the fact that I'm still not really able to nail down his political ideologies.
You can't deny that the mix of harsh vocals with electronic music is a pretty cool mix of styles, and the synth line at the beginning of the chorus just hits me. Not sure why, I just like it.
Side note, I just learned "Rocktober" is a thing, so we might be hitting that up.
I only just realized after listening to a more recent live show that these guys built themselves the perfect late career plan. Their songs are simple enough to play, and their vocals have sounded like an old man from day one. Really good planning guys, keep up the good work.
Side note, the wedding went well yesterday and my speech, though I didn't get to cover as much as I had hoped to, also went well. I was the only one who didn't cry during their speech, so I think I win, haha.
So I'm best-man-ing today at my best friends wedding. Not gonna lie, this is terrifying.
This is the song that they're playing during part of the ceremony though, so give it a listen if you wish. Sorry, I'm too tired to write a good post since I need to be up in 4 ish hours.
Band: Sevendust
Genre: Nu-Metal, Alternative Metal
Well here's some more Nu-Metal for you, but this is a little different from the rest of the stuff I've been showing you. This stuff is a lot more pleasing to the ear to listen to because there are harmonies when they sing.
I've posted this band in the past, but I actually haven't managed to show you one of their heavier songs. Eh, there's always time for that later, ya know? I feel like I've loaded you all up with enough angry music for now. I promise, I'm doing my best to change it up.
Band: Deathmøle
Genre: Instrumental Metal, Post Metal Bandcamp
I don't often post bands that don't exist in real life, but today is gonna be one of those days. Ladies and gentlemen, Deathmole.
Deathmole is a band created by internet cartoonist Jeph Jacques. I might have mentioned his comic strip Questionable Content before as a thing that is full of music jokes, well he also made a band from it.
This band is made up of characters from his comic strip, but he actually went to the lengths to record an album himself for it. Turns out that went so well that there are now 7 albums, the most recent of which were actually professionally recorded in a legit studio.
Don't let the font scare you off, the music isn't nearly as scary as the logo would have you believe. It's all instrumental and really cool with it's timing and such. If you like guitar, but not screaming, then this is the stuff for you.
Let's continue the Nu-Metal kick a little longer actually, cause it's a genre that I've been stuck on for just a little bit now. Honestly it really bugs me when this happens, cause it's not like I can just flood you guys with a single genre like this. It's not really nice of me, ya know?
Still though, this is another song I've been using to make it through the days recently. It got added to my "Zip and Zing" playlist that's basically all just really fast paced music that I enjoy. It's all stuff I like, but since I've been stuck on it I haven't had too many ideas of what to give you guys.
Band: Guns N' Roses
Genre: Rock, Classic Rock
Themes: Some innuendo stuff
Rock legend has it that in this song you can hear Axl Rose banging a groupie in the vocal booth, having it recorded, and layered in the song. Or at least that's the story.
Basically it's just your typical event for GNR, but still, it's kinda trashy.
Artist: Kanye West and Jay-Z
Genre: Rap, Hip Hop
Language: Kinda obvious
I still really love Kanye, and this song is really one of my favorites of his. I'm not really familiar with anything that Jay-Z, but I know that he's good.
This album was both Kanye and Jay-Z working though, and all in all it's a really solid thing. If you follow TheNeedleDrop you might have seen his review of this album talking about how since both Kanye and Jay-Z are at the top of the game the album seemed like a bit of a self serving piece at times. Tracks where they just bragged themselves up when they really didn't need to.
This one though.
This song is freaking fantastic.
As usual if you don't like my taste in music or the language content I do apologize, but this is me. If it offends you, please pass this post by and enjoy (I hope) the next one.
I thought of these guys because at work my friend Nick and I were talking about who we feel are underrated guitarists. He said, "man, that guy from Judas Priest, cause I don't even know his name but their music is solid."
I had to agree with him so I came and did some research on it. Turns out they've got two guitarists who were constantly in competition with each other. If one came up with a good guitar riff the other did everything he could to top it.
That' ladies and gentleman, is how to keep good music going. Fighting.
Band: Powerman 5000
Genre: Industrial Metal
Language: Some, Strong
I feel so horribly disorganized this week. I'm so tired I want to die.
Anyway, the music.
I feel like the driving beat of P5K will help get through this terribly exhausting existence I have for the time being, so why not share it with you as well?
If you didn't see the last two times I posted these guys late last year then I'll give you a couple things I might have mentioned before.
The singer, Spider, is Rob Zombie's brother.
Their music is featured in video games and movies because of the repetitive driving factor, though the singer doesn't like video games at all.
I was gonna do a blog post today, but I haven't been home enough or have Wifi on my laptop enough to write any posts recently. Sorry guys!
Right now I'm stealing sleep time to write this.
Motley Crue though, everybody loves their icons of the 80s, right?
Check it.
Also look at the guy second from the left. Tell me that man didn't actually want to be in a much more extreme metal band. Come on, try to tell me that.
