When it comes down to it, I suppose there's no better song to post on the day of my first gig of sorts than something by Black Sabbath.  These guy's songs are some of the first I ever learned, and the general simplicity of their stuff is what helped lock the bass guitar in as my instrument of choice.

I've always been a huge fan of this song, the plodding nature of it helped shape a lot of my current music taste if we're being honest.  There's something about that grinding drag of a music style that I just love so much..

Black Sabbath - Supernaut

As I promised, yesterday was the last day of Sabbath covers for a while.  Doesn't mean I can't post a Sabbath original though, right?  Here's the original of the one I posted yesterday for comparison.

Yeah, rather big fan of their old stuff.  There was so much stuff they had going on that helped shape what I enjoyed about playing bass for years.  There's still some stuff I apply in most of what I play to this day, and while I've only been playing for like, 8 years or so, it's enough time to change style doncha know.

This whole week has inspired me to try and pick up a song or two here.  Maybe I'll try and record one, I'll keep ya updated.

Black Sabbath - Children Of The Grave

Genre:  Heavy Metal

This song is off of one of my favorite albums when I started listening to Metal more.  My dad gave me a digital copy of it when I had asked him for music once and it quickly rose to the top of a lot of my playlists at the time.  Honestly, a lot of that was probably driven by the fact that my mom hated Sabbath and, since I really didn't rebel that much as a kid, I wanted to do something to "stick it to the man".

Stupid reason to listen to a band, but it's not like it's the first time anybody's done something like that and it sure won't be the last.

Solid song though, I would call it reasonably ahead of it's time in the sense that it could have been released at any point between when it was and about 20 years later and still fit.  Thing is though that's just because Sabbath's style was mostly unchanging over the course of their entire careers.  They have sounded the same of at least similar since they started.

Black Sabbath - N.I.B.

Probably everybody knows Black Sabbath by either their songs War Pigs, Paranoid, or Iron Man.
I'm not gonna lie I straight up love these guys, partially because I can actually play the bass lines in their songs.  It's all relatively simple stuff and for the most part it was how I learned how to play.  Actually since I didn't have anybody teaching me too much after I learned this I kinda hit a wall for a while.  Eh, I still managed to learn more later, it was just hard for a while when you're locked into a pentatonic blues scale.

Black Sabbath - Computer God

So I really like old school Sabbath.  I like a lot of their old songs and I consider them to be one of my favorite bands.  However I will admit that their sound doesn't really work with a lot of playlists I try to make.

That's one of the things I like about Dio Sabbath.  It sounds a lot more like modern metal that the old stuff so it's a nice way to make Sabbath bridge between a pile of stuff.

This was the first Dio era Sabbath song I ever heard and it is probably my favorite.  Off of the album it is on it is, in my opinion, the best track.

We aren't going to get into "Ozzy vs Dio" right now, that can wait for another time.
