Basically this is a link to one of my Spotify playlists. This is part of the playlist I used to kill things on Gears of War and Halo with my brother plus some new stuff that I hadn't heard of when I made the original list.
This is best played when put on random, but whatever you feel is best for enjoying an ever growing playlist of doom and destruction. That makes it sound super dark, but it's still a lot of fun.
I used to love this game a lot. I played it all the time and I think if you get a chance you should play it as well.
This song is way too catchy. I know a guy who listened to it for almost a week straight and he started becoming incredibly dwarf focused. He went so far as to make a character in D&D that was a dwarf who just punched people in the crotch as his attacks. Also this is a great song to play Minecraft to if you're somebody like me who likes mining.
One of the best things about this song is that it has a really simple chorus that I am willing to bet you good money you'll be humming for the rest of the day.
Kael, this song is for you. I hope you can live out your dwarfish dreams.
Old AiC is amazing. Seriously, their stuff is fantastic and I love it a lot. New AiC is also good. There are a lot of people that really don't like the new singer cause Layne is a legend, but I say that it's still good stuff.
This is a song off of the new album, which I haven't listened all the way through yet. I feel weird posting this song because of that but seriously, listen to this freaking awesome bass tone. It's huge and fantastic and it makes me sad that I can't get it.
I also really like the riff in general. Just throwing that out there. Also Alice In Chains puts on an amazing live show if you ever get the chance to see them. Jaw dropping and loud and fantastic.
I really don't know too much about these guys, but I recently started ripping my CD collection to get it in one place and I found a bunch of stuff that I got ages ago and promptly forgot about.
To put this in perspective, I have ripped 146 albums (not counting double disc special editions) with a total of 1778 songs, and I'm only half way through everything I own. Seriously, this is a problem. This is just the stuff that I had "in transit" which means in my car or on top of my dresser cause I'm out of CD space in the drawer that used to store all of my music in it.
Deftones though. I got 2 albums and I haven't done anything with them till about last week. At that point this is one of the tracks that stood out to me as being super catchy and amazing. I don't know if you'll care for it as much, but I hope you do like it.
It is raining. Rain in January is no good, because all it does is freeze. When this happens all you can really do is get home from where ever you are, get a good book/ computer, and put on some nice music in the background. Now you may not really like this music, and I can understand that. It's a wall of noise that you can just sit and be carried away by. Still though, I like it and since this is my blog that's really what counts, right?
Disturbed was one of my favorite bands for a good many years. I own all of their albums and have listened to them many many times. I have not seen them live though, and this bums me since they'll probably stay "In hiatus" forever at this point. I mean really, it's been almost 5 years.
While I don't care for them as much now, I still do hold a bit of a soft spot for them after all this time. This was one of my favorite tracks back in the day, so I hope you like it.
When Head left KoЯn he formed this band. Actually I suppose I mean solo project, since it has his name on it and all. You may remember Love and Death? That is his band that he has now and this was his first act after leaving. Korn. (I'm not gonna do all that "Я" stuff anymore, it's just annying.)
I always feel bad starting a band out with cover songs, especially a band as talented as Cake. Still though, this is an amazing version of War Pigs.
Cake is actually an amazing band and their sound is super unique. I don't think I've found any other band that goes about their stuff quite the same way. Horns, pads, off beat stuff, loops, fun harmonies, it's great.
So speaking of playing all the notes of a guitar, this is an excessively bastardized version of Voodoo Child by Jimi Hendrix. Don't get me wrong, Zakk Wylde is good, but the song didn't need a 5+ minute solo in it.
Still though, my brother saw me post the last song with the line about playing all the notes and he showed me this. good times.
I really could have sworn that I posted this song before. Like, I was 100% sure I had and I even remember some of the things I said. But apparently I didn't, because I can't find any evidence of it in my past posts. Ah well.
Amon Amarth is a Melodic Death Metal band that is commonly referred to as Viking Metal because of the fact that they look like a pack of mutha' effin vikings and sing about Norse mythology.
I feel like I talk about Alexi Laiho outside of his actual band more than anything, but he played the solo on this song. Ya know, doing his thing where he throws out all the notes as quickly as possibly?
As I've said multiply times, Demon Hunter is my all time favorite band.
This track, off of their newest album 'Extremist', is a good example of how their sound has both evolved and stayed the same.
Their new stuff has a lot more singing than the old stuff did, but the screaming is also tighter and the sound has evolved very well with the changing of the band.
For how many guitarists the band has gone through it's actually really cool to hear that they've kept most of the same sound to them.
So I really like old school Sabbath. I like a lot of their old songs and I consider them to be one of my favorite bands. However I will admit that their sound doesn't really work with a lot of playlists I try to make.
That's one of the things I like about Dio Sabbath. It sounds a lot more like modern metal that the old stuff so it's a nice way to make Sabbath bridge between a pile of stuff.
This was the first Dio era Sabbath song I ever heard and it is probably my favorite. Off of the album it is on it is, in my opinion, the best track.
We aren't going to get into "Ozzy vs Dio" right now, that can wait for another time.
So funny thing about this song, the Vevo channel says it's called "Out Of My Head". In the description they call it "Out Of My Mind" though, and everywhere else it's called the right thing. I don't even know.
Also it turns out that Mushroomhead looks surprisingly good in Nazi-Esq uniforms.
You know, funny thing about the Nazi's uniforms. They were designed by one Hugo Boss who also happens to be a rather famous clothing line now. Go figure.
Edit 8pm: You know what really irks me? I almost got to see these guys live. I. Was. This. Close. I didn't cause it was the week I was out of town. They played the day after I left and apparently had a really epic show. My brother got to see them and he didn't even really listen to them till I he saw them live. I am irked.
I found Nachtmahr after watching a Cyber Goth dance video. The dancing was really sub par, but my brother showed them to me for the music anyway, and I lied the music.
Perusing the rest of his material I have found that I really enjoy the sound that it has. Electronica isn't really something I get into much, but there are a few bands that I do tend to enjoy a lot, and I suppose that this guy can make that list.
Oh, and he's also super edgy for looking like a Nazi, don't forget.
Pillar is a Hard Rock band that I happen to enjoy a reasonable amount. They have moments where they sound like Disturbed, so that is a really cool thing for me since they used to be my favorite band.
Pillar has a really cool thing going on though, and to the best of my knowledge they are releasing a new album fairly soon, so they are active still. They've released several albums that seem to have a mildly different take to each one, so if you don't like this try the newest stuff or the oldest stuff and it'll be a different experience just a bit.
I originally started listening to these guys because I thought one of their songs was Alice In Chains. Turns out it wasn't (obviously enough), but I still liked them, so I listen to them from time to time.
I only own Superunknown, so I kinda feel like a fake listener since it's the album with Black Hole Sun on it. Ah well, it's still really good.
This is a song about heroin. Heroin is not good, remember that.
Gwar is a pretty sweet group. Other than having a full set of alternate personalities they use and a stage show that is jaw dropping and amazing. They have blood, they have decapitations, they have yelling and running around, it's basically amazing.
The only sad this is that their singer "Oderus Urungus" died last March, and he was one of the funniest front men I've ever heard.
Starting out with almost serious sounding lyrics, as they went on they gradually went toward a very "funny" sound all about drugs, killing, and stuff like that.
Impending Doom is a game that you have heard before if you followed this blog back in October, but I figured that it's time for a reprise because it's been like a freaking long time.
I've said most of what I had to say about them before, but since then I actually got some super freaking cool news! On of my favorite games, Killing Floor, is releasing a sequel, and it has a pile of songs from bands I love. There's a couple from Demon Hunter and like 3 from Impending Doom. It's gonna be awesome.
So I just learned about these guys yesterday, but since there are mashup people that work on the level of Isosine's summer mashups I really like them.
One of my favorite parts about this song is where they add Disturbed at the end. The way they edit the drum sound so it gets that tuneless sound that dance drums have is really freaking cool.
So while I'm gone I'm defaulting to my favorite weird/internet songs that I have, such as this. I really have nothing to say about this because nothing needs be said. Just sit back and enjoy it, eh?
Another Slipknot song I do enjoy a great deal. I really really love any songs with marching and air raid sirens actually. It's a style to the music that I really like.
Dude, my last post was number 111, how did I miss that? I'm not gonna get a chance to do something with that till I hit 1111 in like 3 and a half years. Crap.
Well anyway here's a song!
So Sabotage is one of my favorite Beastie Boys song. I also just learned that it's not "The Beastie Boys".
This song features a really catchy bass riff and a driving beat making it another one of my getting/staying pumped songs. I've posted a few of them before even if I didn't say it in the post.
Hope you all like this song as much as I do, RIP Adam Yauch (1964-2012)
Project 86 is a Post Hardcore band from Orange County California. They've been around since 1996 and have evolved greatly in their sound over that time. They started sounding an awful lot like Rage Against The Machine and have settled into many different sounds over the years.
The Spy Hunter is one of my personal favorite tracks of theirs for a couple reasons. The main one being that I've covered it before and it's a really really fun song to play. Another reason is that it's a great pump up song. Once it starts it just keeps grinding away till the end and I really like that about a song.
I hope you listened to Halo when I posted it near the beginning of December. It's a freaking awesome song that is totally worth the 9 minute listen.
This is an 8-bit version of that song and it's a pretty decent version as 8-bit goes. They have a tenancy to be crappy a lot of the time, but I like this one.
New year means I can use the band from my first ever post again! Yay!
So Septicflesh is that Symphonic Death Metal band from Greece we heard waaaaaay back in September. I know, that was ages ago.
This is possible the best song they have, though each of their songs get me in a different way each time I listen, so you know. It's a tossup.
Something you may have noticed is I've started writing less and less for things a lot of the time. Sorry about that, I really would rather give you something to read, but I'm absolute trash at writing.
Happy New Year all! It's been a fun 3 months so far, hasn't it? I feel like the new year should be heralded in by the best of last year though, so let's get to it.
Let's preface this by saying that I'm not really an authority on all music since my primary focus was with metal this year, but I still think this will be a good list.
No let us start in no particular order.
Septicflesh - Titan
I found these guys some time last year and they became my favorite artist for something like a good 6 months, which for anybody familiar with my music tastes you know that's actually a really long time to hold the top spot.
Demon Hunter - Extremist
Demon Hunter is a band that I've loved since I first was introduced to metal. They currently hold the award of "That band I always wonder why I stop listening to them ever" that other bands have had till I listened to them again. These guys are my favorite band ever so far and I think you should give this album a listen, because it's legitimately amazing.
Cannibal Corpse - A Skeletal Domain
You may remember this album gracing the list as my first ever album review. It still holds a place as a really good album and one of the best I heard last year. To be totally fair, I missed a lot of stuff from last year, but this is still good stuff if you like Death Metal.
Whitechapel - Our Endless War
I was on a Whitechapel kick when this album came out, so I got it. It's still Deathcore though and that doesn't appeal to a lot of people. As an album though it's not too bad. Some kinda dumb sounding lyrics, but the music makes up for it.
Alestorm - Sunset on the Golden Age *I was unable to find the full album, so a single song will have to do.
I didn't even realize this was a new album when I bought it last month, but as it turns out this was a really good choice to make. It's a solid Alestorm album and a pretty goof Folk Metal album as well. If you liked the one song I posted before you should listen to this because it's all really good.
Weird Al - Mandatory Fun
I know guys.
"Whoa, Noah likes stuff that's not metal? No, this must be a lie."
"Dude no, he posts crappy rap music all the time too, so you know his taste in music is garbage."
However you may feel about Weird Al I will tell you that he is a genius. This was his last album that will be released he has said so that he can keep up with music better. All singles and such from here on out. As you listen you'll note that he has songs on here that were "in" quite a while ago now, so you can see where he's coming from.
