Eazy-E - Boyz-N-The-Hood

Artist:  Eazy-E
Song:  Boyz-N-The-Hood
Album:  Eazy-Duz-It (1988)
Genre:  Rap
Language:  Strong

I love how this song's beat sounds.  That little bell thing is just so tight.  The rest of the beat really sounds dated at this point, but there's something about that little chime that just gets me.

N.W.A. and Eazy-E were some of the artists that I got into earlier on in my rap appreciation because I was all "I need to know the classics" about Rap.  Didn't take the time to hit the more recognized classics like Tupac and Biggie, but that's ok I suppose.  N.W.A. and Eazy have some great flows too, and they helped tip me into the realm of political statement music too, which I'm not a fan of.

AC/DC - Back In Black

Band:  AC/DC
Song:  Back In Black
Album:  Back In Black (1980)
Genre:  Rock, Classic Metal

Honestly the reason I'm picking this song is 100% based on my school uniform.  I used to wear black all the time at Chick-fil-A, and when I started at Toni&Guy I really loved the fact that their uniform was black too.  I'd like a little more dimension, sure, but it's still my color of choice.

Jay Rock - King's Dead

Artist:  Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future, and James Blake
Song:  King's Dead
Album:  Black Panther: Music From And Inspired By
Genre:  Rap, Hip Hop
Language:  Strong

Got to catch opening night Black Panther and I've gotta say, I did enjoy that movie a lot.  It was so refreshing to see a movie on a backdrop that is really underutilized honestly.  I know a lot of people were holding this movie up as a chance to finally highlight that there's black actors with talent that are ignored, and I feel they did great with that.  The whole movie was so full of energy, I just loved it so much.

I feel like there was a better way to say that, but that's ok, it's too late to talk straight.  The performances of the actors and actresses were on point though, all across the board.  The story was pretty solid.  Not being familiar with the Black Panther comics I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was very enjoyable from start to finish.

Soundtracks was bomb too, all the music was a really solid fit, and the album that Kendrick helped put together that this song is from is great too.  Got some of my favorite names on there actually.

No spoilers though, so I won't say anything else.  It's worth watching, so make sure to catch it.

6ix9ine - Kooda

Artist:  6ix9ine (Teka$hi 6ix9ine, Teka$hi)
Song:  Kooda
Album:  Single
Genre:  Rap, Hip Hop
Language:  Strong

I'll be honest, I do what I can to not judge people based on what they look like, but this dude looks like a freaking idiot.  Like, how do the Bloods let this guy hang?  I know they don't want some rainbow grilled freak rollin' with 'em, so what's his deal?

Also the dude had pedophilia charges brought against him.  There's dispute about whether he was a minor at the time of the event, or if it's a vicious rumor brought against him by rivals in the rap industry.

Why would I post him then?  Cause I heard the song before I learned anything about him and I thought it was catchy.  Trash reason, but it's all I've got.

xRepresentx - Swift Justice

Band:  xRepresentx
Song:  Swift Justice
Album:  The New Inquisition (2009)
Genre:  Hardcore
Language:  Strong

I guess I should specify that the main time Hardcore is positive is when it's not about being Straight Edge, which is what any band with an x in their name like this generally is.

Nothing against the Straight Edge crowd honestly, but some of them were pretty awful people back in the day.  Like, catch you smoking make you eat the pack of cigs type people.  Like catch you drinking break the bottle on your head and beat you type people.  I respect the commitment to a clean lifestyle, but some of them took it a little far to the point that they were no worse than the gangs they hated.

But they did hate Nazis, so there's a really solid plus in my book.

It's good music though, and anything that reps my home town is a good time.

Hatebreed - Seven Enemies

Band:  Hatebreed
Song:  Seven Enemies
Album:  The Concrete Confessional (2013)
Genre:  Hardcore
Language:  Strong

I mean, for being a band called Hatebreed these guys are actually a reasonably positive force with their message.  From what I've been learning about the whole Hardcore scene though, it's not an uncommon thing.

So there's this band from Erie called xRepresentx that just had their 15 year anniversary show on Saturday.  I went to support a friend of mine who was way into the scene back in the day, and without fail the whole mood of the venue was generally positive.  Sure the pit existed to hurt you and half my friends were swinging fists and throwing kicks, but everybody there was having a great time.  You could tell they all were there for a good time and in solidarity with the whole old scene they were a part of.

So yeah, if I can track down their music I'll be posting them tomorrow.

Gucci Mane - Used To It

Artist:  Gucci Mane
Song:  Used To It
Album:  Gucci vs. Guwop (2015)
Genre:  Rap, Trap
Language:  Strong

Let's start this out right with a big happy birthday to Guwop himself.  Dude turns 38 today!

While he puts out way too much music to realistically keep up with, I decided to dip into his older stuff to see what he had going on.  This album and title grabbed my attention cause I was hoping it would be his "business self" rapping against his "rapper self", but it doesn't seem to be like that.  Solid few songs in there though, like this one.
