A to Z Challenge: P is for Phil Anselmo

Genre:  Thrash Metal, Southern Metal

Oh Phil.  You are the subject of so many jokes in the Metal community.

From his time to lead singer of Pantera, to his more recent spotlight of screaming "white power" at Dimebash this year, Philip H Anselmo is quite a character.

Honestly I like the guy.  He's brought about a rather funny selection of parodies into my life, his music is honestly pretty good, and without him there would be no equal to Scott Ian of Anthrax when it comes to being in all the Metal history videos.

The bands he's in are honestly really good though.  SuperJointRitual and Down are solid, and the plethora of other bands he's been involved in too.  He may be an asshole, but he's a really solid artist who does deserve some respect.  His voice has a freakishly impressive range that you can see in this video.  If you care to look up other stuff he's been in you can see his low range more, but this shows that not only can he do his screaming deal but he can also pull off some legit singing.

We are past the half way point by the way, cool, right?

Superjoint Ritual - Personal Insult

Genre:  Groove Metal, Hardcore Punk

You know what you need more of in your life?  Probably still 2 Chainz, but I'm gonna give you Phil Anselmo instead.

This is one of his many bands he's been apart of called Superjoint Ritual.  They're not too bad really, but it's not something I could usually get into.  This song is pretty slick though, I like it a lot.  It really grooves and since I've been into Lamb Of God a lot recently that's something I'm really enjoying.

Side note, I added 11.75 hours of work at church this week.  I literally doubled my usual work amount in addition to working 45 at my main job.  Total of 65.  I'm really tired, but I also feel really good about this since my brother and I recorded some song loops that will help things sound better.

Music is, as I hope you've noticed, a passion of mine.  It was really cool that I was able to use stuff I've learned in a recording sense though since all I've ever recorded before was vocals on some songs in the past, never really bass.

A to Z Challenge: C of for Cowboys

First things first, this is my 200th post!  I am actually kind of annoyed that the A to Z challenge fell right on it, cause it would have been fun to throw some sort of shindig to celebrate.  Ah well, there's always the other hundreds.

Cowboys From Hell is the only Pantera album I've ever listened to.  I've heard select songs off of other albums, but this is the only one I've listened to every track.

Now I'm gonna say this right now, I really don't like Pantera that much.  I'll admit that Dime was an amazing guitarist for what he did, and as much as I don't care for Phil Anselmo I can't deny that he has a pretty good vocal range.  Phil also makes some interesting faces.

Probably my favorite tracks on this album are as follows.

Each song holds some sort of appeal to me in one way or another.  Domination sounds almost like a Motörhead song, Psycho Holiday starts with machine gun fire, and Primal Concrete Sledge has a part where they add this random half a measure or so.
