Pink Floyd - Hey You

I was so sure that Pink Floyd's Pulse show had a live version of Hey You, but apparently that's one they decided to skip out on.  I'll link to a good one here, but the whole show is fantastic.

But yeah, I almost didn't post Pink Floyd cause I totally forgot they existed.  I'm not sure how I managed to do that since they are kinda a large part of my childhood.  They were one of the bands that played a lot in my teen years.  Any time my dad was home there'd be concert of some type on and for a while that was Pink Floyd.

Floyd has obnoxiously good stage production and show concept in general.  A lot of that was due to Roger Waters, who was the primary idea guy for stuff like that.  After he split from Floyd he was quoted saying something along the lines of "That's my pig up there, that's my plane crashing, it's their dry ice."  It was a bad breakup.

Fantastic band, fantastic song.  Check out their full live show if you get time though, it's amazing.

Pink Floyd - Learning To Fly

I feel like there's a mountain of Floyd songs that just reek of nostalgia for me, but I never know what album most of them are from.  There's a lot of songs that I kinda assume come from The Wall of Dark Side Of The Moon, but since mostly what I'm familiar with are  mountain of concert videos and such I don't tend to know where most of them are from.

Is a good song though, so please enjoy, eh?

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

I really like this picture, that's why I used it.  I know it has absolutely nothing to do with the song, of the album that the song came from, but I couldn't find any picture of the band that I liked so this is what I went with.

I'm on my way home today, so when planning ahead I thought maybe a song about being strung out on heroin would fit how I was feeling.  I'll get back to you on that.

EVENING UPDATE:

So yesterday I actually got called and told to go in 3 hours late, so I went out and bought a right to commemorate my trip.  I like it.

Pink Floyd - The Gnome

Themes:  Nothing much, other than the obvious fact that these guys are whacked on some sort of drugs.

Eh, I guess I already summed up this song.  I'm curious as to what drugs they were actually on here.  I'm more than a little happy with the direction they took once Syd Barrett left, there was much less stuff like this.  Don't get me wrong, there's a certain charm to this music, but nothing about this is something I would want to listen to sober.  Maybe that's my issue, this isn't music that was written for me, but for people to enjoy being stoned to?

Pink Floyd - High Hopes

Everybody knows who Pink freaking Floyd is.  And if you're a music enthusiast even half worth his salt, you have a vinyl copy Dark Side Of The Moon in your collection probably.  It's actually kind of obnoxious how many people have that album to be honest, since while it's good, all it majorly did was bring them into the US eye.  They were already a kind of big deal in Britain before that.

Back when they formed they had a very different sound from back in 67 when they released their first album (you listen to that stuff and tell me that they weren't doing hard drugs) than they were at the release of DSotM in 73, but that can mostly be attributed to the change of singers and primary writers.  Syd Barrett was the original vocalist and one of the guitarists in Pink Floyd, but he left in 68, and was replaced by David Gilmour.

Now this song is from one of their newest albums, released in 1994 and remastered in 2011.  I would call this song more of a David Gilmour to be honest, and he plays in in his solo tours quite frequently with a very minimal group which plays very well for the song.  In general, Gilmour's material tended to favor a slower, more somber approach to the songs.  He could probably play the happiest sounding scale in the world, but still make it sound really sad.
