Fit For An Autopsy - Black Mammoth

Band: Fit For An Autopsy
Song: Black Mammoth
Album: The Great Collapse (2017)
Genre: Deathcore

*In my defense on this late post, I actually had it done, I just forgot to share it.

Hey y'all, today I'm gonna share this song, which until watching the video, the only comment I was gonna make was on the use of gang vocals in the chorus being really cool.  This song came out around the same time as Suicide Silence put out their song Doris, to much criticism over their use of clean vocals in the chorus.  It was the first time the band had done that, and a lot of people didn't think it was a good move.  Then you have FFAA putting out an album that had a lot of that very tastefully used in it, and nobody cared because, spoiler alert, it was done very tastefully.

Instead though, I've discovered the song is about the Dakota Access Pipeline‎ and the fiasco that caused back in early 2017.  I'm not informed enough on all that went down here, so if that's something you're less informed on, I'd advise you look into it yourself and make an opinion based on multiple sources and, preferably, multiple search engines.

Fit For An Autopsy - Iron Moon

Band:  Fit For An Autopsy
Song:  Iron Moon
Album:  The Great Collapse (2017)
Genre:  Deathcore

I'm really feeling some agressive grinding chug music this week.  As such I've decided to start us off with one of the most groovy Deathcore songs I've managed to find yet.

I may have mentioned this when I reviewed the album in March, when I first heard this song I was immediately in love.  The intro to the song is just so harsh and wonderful, ya know?

Stay tuned for some more ripping tracks this week, then probs some christmas tunes around the day itself.

Album Review: Fit For An Autopsy - The Great Collapse

Band:  Fit For An Autopsy
Album:  The Great Collapse
Genre:  Deathcore
Language:  Strong

I'm aware that since this album came out on the 17th I'm a little behind to really be reviewing it, but screw that.  I wanted to take the time to listen to the album and since I'm not paid to blog that went a little on the back burner.

I'm really bummed that I took so long to really check this album out though, as it really adds a really strong entry to their catalogue.

I wasn't super excited about these guys when I first saw them.  I remember when they hit the stage I just assumed they were gonna be another generic Deathcore band.  To be totally honest, I wasn't wrong.  They are mostly what you'd assume your standard issue Deathcore band would sound.  The issue is that not many bands of the genre manage to meet the bare minimum of what they need to do.  Fit For An Autopsy manages to not only meet this level, but surpass it.

There's some tracks on this album really stand out to me.  Heads Will Hang, which was their big reveal song that I featured here before, is just good.  I love the riff that goes through the song, it makes me really happy.

And Iron Moon.  Freaking Iron Moon man, that song is so fantastic.  When I heard it start I immediately saved it.  So freaking good.

Yo, the chorus on Black Mammoth?  That gang vocal choir thing?  I can have more of that in my Metal anytime you wanna give it to me.  It wasn't overused in the song or anything, it was there just enough to add a really awesome element to the song.  It lifted it up from a good song to a great song.

Then there's Empty Still.  It's all chill and ambient for a lot of it, but the vocals stay harsh.  They don't make the mistake of trying to sneak a clean singing song into what they do because they know that's not what their fans are after.  Especially after the fiasco that was the Suicide Silence fanbase reaction.

All in all I rate this album a really solid 8/10.  I've been really bummed out recently with the fact that none of my favorite artists have been releasing anything much, but then this gets dropped straight on my head.  Really good Deathcore guys, props to you.  It's only 40 minutes to listen through it, so do yourself a favor and check it out.

Fit For An Autopsy - Heads Will Hang

Band:  Fit For An Autopsy
Genre:  Deathcore

Nothing's more fun than a new single to get you interested in a band, am I right?

When I saw these guys live I'll admit I wasn't super impressed by them.  They felt a little generic at the time, but as I've listened to them more I've decided they fall right into the line of generic that I like a lot.

After such a questionable release from Suicide Silence with single Doris, really all anybody would have to do to do well in the Deathcore scene was stay in their traditional sound and don't vary too much.  And deffinetly stay away from anythign that sounds like clean vocals.

Autopsy was just like "Nah man, let's get creative with this song" and not only did they have a really nice riff that they grooved out on over the course of the song, they did the unthinkable.  They added clean vocals to the chorus.

Now this isn't exactly a new move for them, they really do quite well with the subtle style of burying their cleans under a mountain of screaming.  In the wake of Doris however, I feel like this was a bold move of sorts.  It really fits though, because they already know how to do it.  They already know how to do it, so they effortlessly slid it in.

Song wise this is a solid release from Fit For An Autopsy.  It managed to reignite my interest in them as a group and I've been listening to their album Absolute hope, Absolute Hell on repeat all afternoon.  I look forward to hearing what else these guys come out with in their upcoming album The Great Collapse, which will premier on March 17th.

Fit For An Autopsy - Absolute Hope Absolute Hell

Band:  Fit For An Autopsy
Genre:  Deathcore
Language:  Some, Strong

So I got to see these guys open during the Thy Art Is Murder show that I saw Rings Of Saturn at.  I wanna say they were the 3rd band of the night and if memory serves they had a decent show.  It was kinda generic sounding stuff, but I also kinda assumed that's what I was getting into when I went to see the show, ya know?

Well the singer was helping man the merch booth during one of the later sets and I had a chance to talk to him.  He was a super cool dude, really humble and interested in talking.  We talked music for a little bit and it was a genuinely nice conversation.

Their music is pretty nice as well, but it's definitely something that a lot of people won't be into.
