Megadeth - Sweating Bullets

Band:  Megadeth
Song:  Sweating Bullets
Album:  Countdown To Extinction (1992)
Genre:  Thrash Metal

One really can't ignore Megadeth with all the talk of Thrash Metal I'm throwing around the last couple days, so here they are.

I'm honestly happy now that Mustaine was kicked from Metallica.  Not because I don't think he was good enough for them or anything dumb like that, but because I think that if it weren't for his rage against them we'd never have gotten the amazing songs from both bands that we got.  Metallica put out a lot of solid thrash songs, and Megadeth constantly countered with something that was just a little tighter, or a little faster.  They battled for years like that before finally making up.

I'm not as learned with Megadeth's discography as I am with Metallica's, so here's one that may or may not be more popular just because it's what I know and like.

A to Z 2K17 Runner Up: Megadeth

Band:  Megadeth
Song:  Tornado Of Souls
Album:  Countdown To Extinction
Genre:  Thrash Metal, Technical Metal

A close second to my final decision for "M", Megadeth is a rather good band.

There's of course the whole "Dave Mustaine was kicked out of Metallica" situation, but we aren't going to really talk about that today.  There's plenty of people who are more informed of the situation that can do that.  We're going to talk about the fact that Mustaine plays a freaking awesome rhythm guitar.

Seriously, it's like he did it to just get back at the Metallica guys.  He plays a freaking awesomely complicated rhythm guitar that puts a lot of people so shame.  His riffs are freaking solid and just make me happy.

This isn't really the best example of that I guess, but just know that 90% of the background guitar is the singer.  That's all you need to know to be at least a little impressed.

Megadeth - Hangar 18

Band:  Megadeth
Genre:  Thrash Metal

I've got a confession to make, I've accidentally been playing some really heavy Metallica support by not posting Megadeth at all yet.  We gonna have a Metal History Lesson™ to get you some info about this whole thing.

So way back when there was this group called Metallica.  This is back before they hit it really big, kinda big, or really too big at all.  We're talking pre "Kill Em All" old.  Dave Mustaine was the original lead guitarist of Metallica back then and he also had a pretty major drinking problem.  Now to be fair, it's not like the rest of the band didn't also have their fair share of issue but they as a group decided that Mustaine had more issues than the rest of them.  So they decided to pack his crap, buy him a bus ticket, and send him home.  Mustaine did get credited with 4 of the songs riffs and such, but he has claimed over the years that he was uncredited for a couple other songs that were released at a later time.  If you listen to a lot of Metallica's early stuff you can kinda hear what songs he still had an influence in and which they had come up with without him.

But yeah, there used to be some seriously bad blood between the bands (for obvious reasons) so the fans were pretty polarized for a long time.  As the years went by it was more and more accepted to like both bands, and now that they seem to have made up all the closeted fans of both groups can finally display their allegiance.

Keep your eyes open, we're gonna have another Metal History Lesson coming up in October.
