I feel like it's important for me to return to some of my roots as we come to the end of regular postings here, so I did a deep dig in my old post list, and found that Cannibal Corpse was the 12th band I ever posted, and that was an album review.  I actually ended up posting the studio version of this song just 20 days after that.

As that was back in 2014 though, I feel I'm totally justified in sharing the song again, as it's highlighting the lice show that CC can bring.  Behold Corpsegrinder's gigantic neck, it's the stuff of legends.  He's also a huge World Of Warcraft fan, hence the Horde logo tattooed on his arm.

I really do enjoy Cannibal Corpse, the music they play is just really enjoyable to me and I don't really know why.  The stories the songs tell are quick and brutal, the music is a pounding auditory attack, and it's a grand old time.

I dunno, I just love music that tells a story, even if the story is all just about viciously murdering loads of people.  A story is a story, ya know what I mean?

Yo, you know what would be dope?  A collaboration song between these guys and Carach Angren.  Two horror masters writing an album together.

Cannibal Corpse - Evisceration Plague

Hey, it's time for our Top 10 Heaviest list!

Now I'm gonna disclaimer before this starts, this is all personal opinion.  If I stayed in certain genres I could find heavier stuff than this, but this is limited to the stuff that I listen to for the most part, so we'll have to deal, eh?

There's no particular order to this list since there were a couple that I couldn't decide on their place in the cue, so I'm just gonna throw 10 bands at you and you can pick what you think the order should be.

So Cannibal Corpse.  Not too many ways you can argue about these guys being heavy as all crap, right?  They have a pretty crushing sound and they don't even down tune their guitars that much like a lot of the other bands on this list do.  I hope you enjoy this song and list, cause it only get's better (personal opinion) from here.

A to Z Challenge: G is for Gallery Of Suicide

Ah, Cannibal Corpse.  I have bad news now, this is an album I'm only partially familiar with.  I know I Will Kill You and Sentenced To Burn, but that's really it.  Honestly I had planned on doing Skeletal Domain, but since I already reviewed it once I figured it'd be overkill.

Death Metal alert, you probably won't like this.

Still though, I have yet to be disappointed with a Cannibal Corpse album.  It's kinda nice, generic Death Metal.  Well, more like Brutal Death Metal if you want to be one of those super picky Genre people.  Or if you want to go full opposite you can be like, "It's all just music man, Genre's mean nothing."

If you remember waaaaaay back like a billion years ago I posted these guys I made a comment about how they "cannot play their song "Born in a Casket" but can still play "Dismembered and Molested" live" while in Germany.  well this album has Dismembered and Molested on it.  Just in case you're interested.

Just as a heads up by the way, Youtube restricts sound quality on the lower resolution videos, so playing it at 720p or 1080p is actually helpful.

Fractionally Human - Hammer Smashed Face

I'm gonna throw some shameless self promotion in here.  This is a song that my brother and I recorded a while ago.  It's a cover of a Cannibal Corpse song and it was insanely fun to do.

I programmed the drum track and screamed at a microphone and my brother recorded bass and 4 layers of guitar.

My only issue with it is that I ended up mixing the vocals a little low, but there's not too much I can do about that at this point.

Personal Top Albums of 2014

Happy New Year all!  It's been a fun 3 months so far, hasn't it?  I feel like the new year should be heralded in by the best of last year though, so let's get to it.

Let's preface this by saying that I'm not really an authority on all music since my primary focus was with metal this year, but I still think this will be a good list.

No let us start in no particular order.

Septicflesh - Titan

I found these guys some time last year and they became my favorite artist for something like a good 6 months, which for anybody familiar with my music tastes you know that's actually a really long time to hold the top spot.

Demon Hunter - Extremist

Demon Hunter is a band that I've loved since I first was introduced to metal.  They currently hold the award of "That band I always wonder why I stop listening to them ever" that other bands have had till I listened to them again.  These guys are my favorite band ever so far and I think you should give this album a listen, because it's legitimately amazing.

Cannibal Corpse - A Skeletal Domain

You may remember this album gracing the list as my first ever album review.  It still holds a place as a really good album and one of the best I heard last year.  To be totally fair, I missed a lot of stuff from last year, but this is still good stuff if you like Death Metal.

Whitechapel - Our Endless War

I was on a Whitechapel kick when this album came out, so I got it.  It's still Deathcore though and that doesn't appeal to a lot of people.  As an album though it's not too bad.  Some kinda dumb sounding lyrics, but the music makes up for it.

Alestorm - Sunset on the Golden Age  *I was unable to find the full album, so a single song will have to do.

I didn't even realize this was a new album when I bought it last month, but as it turns out this was a really good choice to make.  It's a solid Alestorm album and a pretty goof Folk Metal album as well.  If you liked the one song I posted before you should listen to this because it's all really good.

Weird Al - Mandatory Fun

I know guys.
"Whoa, Noah likes stuff that's not metal?  No, this must be a lie."
"Dude no, he posts crappy rap music all the time too, so you know his taste in music is garbage."

However you may feel about Weird Al I will tell you that he is a genius.  This was his last album that will be released he has said so that he can keep up with music better.  All singles and such from here on out.  As you listen you'll note that he has songs on here that were "in" quite a while ago now, so you can see where he's coming from.

In Germany, Cannibal Corpse cannot play anything off of their first 3 albums (this song included) because a teacher saw one of their shirts and freaked out, managing to get the first albums banned.  Ironically, this means they cannot play their song "Born in a Casket" but can still play "Dismembered and Molested" live.  Of the irony.

I hope you enjoy this.  The song is seriously fun to sing and my brother said the guitars were both a joy and a pain.  Just in case you ever decide to play it.

ALBUM REVIEW: Cannibal Corpse - A Skeletal Domain 2014

So I got the new Cannibal Corpse album a couple days ago and only just realized that it has been out for less than 2 weeks.  Review time!

We're gonna do this track by track, but my initial reaction to the album as a whole is that it's another great addition to the lineup of now 13 albums.  While I'm not as well versed in their older material as I probably should be, I know at least 2 songs from each album.

Released on September 16th, the album had a lot of hype in the Death Metal community.  Even if you aren't a particularly huge fan of CC, you should at least respect what they have added to the scene as a whole.  

Known for their questionably lyrics, heavy sound, a the singers massive thigh of a neck, they have been around since 1988 with only 3 members having changed over the course of that time.  These guys are solid members of the Metal world.  

Some might find their content appalling (a religious group in Russia is currently trying to get them banned for blasphemy) but their personal views on their material "We don't sing about politics. We don't sing about religion...All our songs are short stories that, if anyone would so choose they could convert it into a horror movie. Really, that's all it is. We like gruesome, scary movies, and we want the lyrics to be like that. Yeah, it's about killing people, but it's not promoting it at all. Basically these are fictional stories, and that's it. And anyone who gets upset about it is ridiculous."  (source http://www.markprindle.com/fisher-i.htm) certainly show that they don't give a crap.

Now without further ado, a track by track review.

1.  High Velocity Impact Spatter

Like I said before, I can't claim much knowledge about this compared to a lot of the older stuff.  That being said, I like a lot of things about this song.  As a whole, this stuff feels a lot tighter than a lot of the older stuff but I don't think that takes away from it at all.  The guitar work is very good and I love the what Fisher does toward the end of the choruses.

2.  Sadistic Embodiment

Starting out kinda weird with borderline conflicting rhythms in the verses, this song has a cool and unique sound from a lot of the rest of the album.  However, it does feel a little Tech-y, which isn't really CC's thing usually.  Not a bad song at all, and lyrically it feels right, but not the best on the album in my opinion.

3.  Kill Or Become

Now this one is probably my favorite track.  As a bassist, I really freaking love Alex Webster's bass work, and while this song doesn't have super complicated stuff you can hear some killer tone in it that isn't as obvious in a lot of the other tracks.

Also for some reason I have a strange attraction to the line, "Fire up the chainsaw, Hack all their heads off."  Don't ask me why, I just do.

4.  A Skeletal Domain

This song starts out with tones of Death/Doom, and I really like it.  As it unfolds you can almost hear the horror welling up in the music which is a really cool effect that you rarely feel in a style like Death Metal.  The feelings this song brings up really do fit with what the art on the album would begin to conjure to your mind.

5.  Headlong Into Carnage

I don't have as many strong feelings about this song right away to be honest.  It's a good song, but I don't feel strongly one way or another about it, ya know?  The more I listen to it, the more it seems to grow on me though, which in my book makes it a good song.

6.  The Murderer's Pact

Ah, the single I've been hearing for a while now.  On one hand, singles are chosen because they are the best on the album.  On the other hand, that can make them feel old far too quickly.  That is not the case with "The Murderer's Pact" thankfully, because it really feels like a solid CC song.  I'm serious, lyrically and musically it feels right.  I wouldn't call it classic, but I would say that it's a killer track.

7.  Funeral Cremation

This song feels a little great to me.  It has a wonderful doom and gloom feel to the intro followed by the tormented travels of a murderer.  Really, what more could you want, right?  Then it turns out that all the killings were his own family, which makes the whole package fit together nicely.

8.  Icepick Lobotomy

Dat bass tho, listen to it ring out.  Then there's the alternately horrifying and hilarious picture of Corpsegrinder operating on some poor soul.  On the other hand, this song definitely feels different and maybe not quite right.  Musically it is just that small step different from the rest of the album.  Also reading up on legit icepick lobotomys has freaked me out a little, and these lyrics do a good job at summoning that old "creeped out" feeling I had.

9.  Vector Of Cruelty

I'm not sure what it is about this song, but it is a very close second to "Kill Or Become" in my favorite list.  There's some good bass work in this one too, and it also has (I almost hesitate to say it) a bouncy feel to it.  It flows really well and is pretty fun to listen to.

10.  Bloodstained Cement

Not to stereotype, but I feel like this song sums up what a good number of guys feel like when we think about what would happen if we got jumped somewhere.  Don't lie, you've thought of it.

Musically it almost feels repetitive though, so there is that as a downside.

11.  Asphyxiate To Resuscitate

One of the best things about this song is that the managed to take a Wah solo and make it not suck.  This has been a problem in the metal world since Kirk Hammett ruined it for everybody back in the 90s.  This is a pretty good song though, with a good beat that borderline reminds me of some of the stuff from the 90s era CC.

12.  Hollowed Bodies

As I finish the album, I feel like I have very little to say about this track.  Is it good?  Yes.  It it Brutal?  Yes.  I simply have this issue with the last track of an album, where I really struggle with having an opinion or any major sort about it.  Musically it's killer, and Fisher takes us through a wonderful little tale, but be that as it may, I hold no major feelings about it.

That unfortunately, brings us to the end of the album.  Hope you all liked it and remember, if you really enjoy music, support the band by actually buying the music and going to shows.  That's my 2 cents.
