Rage Against The Machine - Bombtrack

Band:  Rage Against The Machine
Song:  Bombtrack
Album:  Rage Against The Machine
Genre:  Rap Metal
Language:  Strong

Well first off, read this if you want a cool story about these guys playing on Saturday Night Live.

As time goes on I'm finding I love these guys more and more.  As individuals they've managed to preach the same message for more than 25 years now and as a band, though the specific message of their music was directed toward a different era, still holds strong too.

Musically they're bomb too.  While Black Sabbath may have been what got me started on bass, RAtM is one of the groups that helps inspire me today still.

But yeah, solid song from a solid band.  Dig it.

Kanye West - Monster

Artist:  Kanye West feat. Bon Iver, Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj
Song:  Monster
Album:  My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Genre:  Rap, Hip Hop
Language:  Strong

A friend of mine was talking about this song recently.  Something about Rick Ross' incredibly out of breath sounding verse, Jay-Z and Kanye not giving their all, and the DJ cutting the song off before Nicki's verse hits.

Now I, and my friend, are not the biggest fans of Nicki.  However her verse is hands down one of the best things about the song.  It's just goes so hard, it's fantastic.  It's probably the best verse she's ever laid down if we're being honest.

Seether - Fake It

Band:  Seether
Song:  Fake It
Album:  Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces (2007)
Genre:  Alternative Metal
Language:  Strong

I mean firstly, let's get the elephant addressed.  Screw these guys for uploading the censored version of this song literally everywhere I can find it in good quality.  Here's a lower quality one that's actually the legit song.

This song was popular in our crew when I first started at Chick-fil-A back in 2012 though, so I used to hear a lot of it.  I dig it though.  It got over played, but it was still a fun song while it lasted.

Godsmack - Love-Hate-Sex-Pain

Band:  Godsmack
Song:  Love-Hate-Sex-Pain
Album:  The Oracle (2010)
Genre:  Hard Rock

Honestly, Godsmack is an overall good time when it comes to their music.  They've released essentially the same album with just enough changes to pick a new favorite song every time, they're simple and easy to listen to, and repetitive enough to just let rock in the background without caring.

I don't often listen to them, but when I do they manage to fill that hole that I like having them around for.  Just some big dumb rock music to have playing, ya know?

I mean sure, they have their weird mystical sounding down tracks, but that's fine I suppose.

Paramore - Misery Business

Band:  Paramore
Song:  Misery Business
Album:  RIOT! (2007)
Genre:  Pop Punk

So it's been like, 3 months since I said my band was finally gonna get together for our first rehearsal, but it actually happened this time.  We finally got together and practiced some songs, haha.  Wrote one, working on another, and covered two.

I figured this would be a good song to start with since it's one of the cover songs we decided on.  Hot dang, this bass part is hard to just pick up without fully knowing the song, not gonna lie.

It's a catchy tune though that probably everybody but me was familiar with.  I only heard it for the first time maybe 3 months back?  The whole 2000s Pop Punk faze was one I happened to miss most of unfortunately.

Johnny Cash - A Boy Named Sue

Artist:  Johnny Cash
Song:  A Boy Named Sue
Album:  Honestly can't even tell, too many releases, haha
Genre:  Country

In a haze of resume writing, garbage fun video editing, and studying for my test coming up on Saturday, I am having some issues getting to writing these posts any other time than right before bed.

That's ok though, because sometimes my word vomit is enjoyable to read, right?

Nah, I know it's not that great to put up with.  Either too much trash to sift through or almost nothing at all written.  It's a solid time I suppose.

No worries all, I graduate in 4 short months.  After that I'm gonna have a nice regular job again that doesn't get squeezed into the time between school and bed with that smattering of social life getting in the way.

To bide the time till I get a hold on my life here, enjoy a rather fun Johnny Cash song.  Also watch my video, it's hilarious and you get to hear my voice sounding overly preppy.

Jane's Addiction - Been Caught Stealing

Band:  Jane's Addiction
Song:  Been Caught Stealing
Album: Ritual De Lo Habitual (1990)
Genre:  Grunge

Ironically, though I had no clue what the song was at the time, this is the first Jane's Addiction song I had heard.  A year or so after I heard it I got to see them live opening for Alice In Chains, and at the time I wasn't sure what to think of them.  They had a fantastic show, that's for sure, I wish I had paid more attention to it.  I didn't think I liked them though so I kinda decided to space out and wander around the lawn.

I've become acquainted with this song though through a church thing ironically enough.  I figure the song is enjoyable enough to share with y'all, yeah?

Black Tongue - Wasted (remix)

Band:  Black Tongue
Song:  Wasted (Dellux Remix)
Album: Born Hanged / Falsifier
Genre:  Deathcore

A little song I stumbled on again last night.  I really love Black Tongue, but something about this remix just really makes me happy.

Their usual sound of course is incredibly heavy, almost to the point of being too much at times.  This remix on the other hand manages to go just as hard, but it does that by being incredibly withheld from itself.

The whole time the song plays you can feel that it's holding back it's main energy.  There's an energy down there that you know could be let out, but it's just not.  The entire song has a feeling of unease because of that, and it's really nifty.

Rob Scallon - Recording Metal on 100-Year-Old Equipment

Artist:  Rob Scallon
Bandcamp:  robscallon.bandcamp.com
Patreon:  www.patreon.com/RobScallon

So in the sequel to this video, Rob Scallon records his metal band onto wax cylinders.

I just thought it'd be cool to share this cause, while it's not exactly a song as I'd usually share it, it's a really awesome bit of music stuff.  Watch the other video before this, it's so cool to see that working and in action.

Ded - FMFY

Band:  Ded
Song:  FMFY
Album:  Mis•An•Thrope
Genre:  Nu-Metal
Language:  Strong

Recently, as you may have noticed from yesterday's post, I've been falling back into my Nu-Metal trench.  I can't help it man, it's just some of my favorite music, ya know?  The power and energy it brings to the show is just straight up jaw dropping at times.  Sure it can be incredibly disappointing too, but all music has that.

My surprise band that hit me last year was Ded.  I didn't anticipate having the opening band of a show manage to pull me in quite like these guys managed, but I was pleasantly surprised.  What bums me out a little bit is that I'm not the biggest fan of the whole album.  While I love this song and Anti-Everything, the rest of the album falls into the category of bands I don't enjoy as much.  It's been a while since I listened to it though, so I really should give it another listen before I pass too hard judgement.

I do look forward to the next album though, because watching bands evolv in their sound is a freaking blast, ya know?  There's so many little things you can watch come and go while they cut out their sound from the rest of the bands in their genre.  And hey, if they decide to fall into the general generic sound of their genre, maybe whatever they do will be good enough to stand out as the good generic.
