Sunn O))) - Big Church

Band:  Sunn O)))
Genre:  Drone Metal

This is a little bit of a different style of chill music.  The other ones were all beach music, sunshine music, and stuff like that.  This music is more along the lines of atmosphere.

This is the kind of music that you light some candles and some incense and sit in a dark room to listen to.

This is the kind of music that you play for meditating.  If you're meditating on evil that is.

This is the kind of music that you play so loud it actually loosens your muscles from the vibration of the bass.

Or this is the kind of music that you play just cause it's enjoyable to you.  Your choice.

Bob Marley - Redemption Song

Artist:  Bob Marley
Genre:  Reggae

This is not a song I'm familiar with.  I'm only really familiar with about 6 of Bob Marley's songs and this is not one of them.  However I asked my Mom what her favorite song of his was and this was her answer.  As somebody who is a lot more familiar with his material than I am I thought it would be appropriate.

Enjoy!

Dirty Heads - Lay Me Down

Band:  Dirty Heads feat Rome (of Sublime)
Genre:  Reggae

More Reggae!

This is a group that I was introduced to a few years ago by a friend of mine I used to work with.  Dude was a lot of fun and had a very broad taste in music.  He also is the guy that introduced me to a lot of the different music that helped shape my initial tastes.

I really like these guys as well though, and much like Matisyahu I can't give as solid reason.  They are a good quality sound, their music is on, something something catchy, you know the drill.

Matisyahu - Live Like A Warrior

Artist:  Matisyahu
Genre:  Reggae

You know what your life is missing?  Jewish Reggae.

For real though, if you aren't listening to this guy at least a little bit you're majorly missing out.  Matisyahu, other than being a reasonably big name in modern Reggae, is in general a very talented dude.  I like his stuff a lot and you should to, cause reasons.

Sorry, I actually don't have too much to specifically say about this.

Devourment - Conceived In Sewage

Band:  Devourment
Genre:  Slam Death

This one's from my brother.  You know, before we get into the chilax tunes.

He claimed the music video was "funny", but I couldn't find it.  Apparently it was just the band playing in a dark room and a guy with a flashlight and a camera just walked around.  I don't see this as being super funny, but whatever.  The name of the song is what amused me honestly.  I'm a sucker for terrible imagery and this was basically perfect in the realm of "so terrible in can't be true and thus is amusing."

I know you'll hate this, so you don't need to listen, but I promise tomorrow kicks off at least 4 days of mellow tunes.

Side note, Slam Death is like Death Metal but more intense.

Conkarah - Hello

Band:  Conkarah
Genre:  Reggae

Cover songs, amirite?

A friend of mine shared this on my Facebook page today and it set me on a mild Reggae kick.  I might post a few more songs of this style this week, we'll see.

Reggae is something that I always have really enjoyed but never really got into a lot generally.  My brother told me that I don't smoke enough (read any) weed to enjoy it properly, but whatever.  I tend to gravitate towards more intense music.  Gangster Rap and Metal fit that usually, but every now and then you need some good chillin' music.

The Who - Boris The Spider

Band:  The Who
Genre:  Classic Rock

I recently learned that people consider this song to be the first use of what is now considered Death Metal vocals.  I mean, I can see it, but that's not anywhere near the most attractive part of this song.

Honestly the best part of this song for me is that this song is a song that my old boss didn't know.  My first boss was from the hippie era, and even though he was a respected chef type person who actually had cooked at the White House on a couple occasions he was still a hippie.

He was a big fan of The Who, but he had never heard this song.  I was so freaking proud of myself when I found that I knew a song by them that he didn't because at the time all I had heard was their greatest hits album.

Jay Z - 99 Problems

Artist:  Jay Z
Genre:  Rap
Language:  Strong

I know, I know.  "Noah.  This is too much cRap music again.  Please stop."

Yeah, I'm listening to a lot of Rap right now because of the people I'm hanging out with, so you understand, right?

I mean, everybody get's stuck in music ruts, right?  I think I mostly do a decent job at keeping some variation in when I'm honestly only really listening to one of my Rap playlists or my Metal playlists.

This is a song that I've only actually heard in a mashup before, but that mashup is really good so that was ok for me.  Here's two different links to check that out.

It's really freaking catchy and has a great beat.  Ya know, the primary reason I listen to a lot of songs.

Enjoy, haha

N.W.A. - F*ck The Police

Artists:  N.W.A. (Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, DJ Yella, MC Ren)
Genre:  Gangster Rap
Language:  The title man.  No need to ask.

I'm not sure why I really want to listen to NWA a lot this week, but I do.  It's been a while, so I guess that might be it, eh?

Aside from a generally terrible message this song is really catchy though.  On the other hand, it does kinda open a window to what people other than myself sometimes have to put up with, which really isn't too cool.

Politics though.  I try to avoid them.

Rise Against - Like The Angel

Band:  Rise Against
Genre:  Punk Rock

I used to know how to play this bass intro years ago when I first bought this album.  I forgot they existed till yesterday though, which may be the best part of this blog for me.  I have managed to rediscover several bands that I had just stopped listening to and I have them on hand again through Spotify.

Music wise as far as Punk goes these guys aren't bad.  I can't imagine they're that great live since the demo tracks you can find sound rough, but hey, they still have some really catchy tunes.

The Doobie Brothers - Long Train Runnin'

Band:  The Doobie Brothers
Genre:  Classic Rock

I'm kinda falling asleep right now cause I didn't have time to write this before bed, so I'm gonna draw on one of my backup songs.  This is a really fun song to listen to, so I hope you like it as much as I do.

These guys name makes me laugh.

Talk to ya'll later.

Taylor Swift - Thug Story

Artist:  Taylor Swift & T-Pain
Genre:  Hip Hop

This song really just amuses me a lot.  It was released more as a joke than anything else, but I feel like it surprisingly holds up as a rap song.  Like, she's not the worst rapper I've ever heard actually (looking at you Chief Keef.)

Enjoy this though, cause even if you hate T-Swift you've gotta admit this is funny.

Also I love the fact that T-Pain's chain says "Big Ass Chain".

50 Cent - P.I.M.P.

Artist:  50 Cent feat Snoop Dogg & G-Unit
Genre:  Rap
Language:  Strong, censored

I just started listening to 50 Cent yesterday, but I have decided that I kinda like his stuff a lot.  I've never heard anything that he's done before, but I have heard a lot about the things he's done.  Dude's a vicious person to cross even though he's kinda moved away from legit crime.  At least, I think he has.

Also the dude's been shot like 9 times, so there's that for his street cred.

Tyga - Rack City

Artist:  Tyga
Genre:  Rap
Language:  Strong

Here's a song I discovered while I was out and looking for new music last week.  We mostly gonna talk about what I was up to though.

I met a lot of new people, I learned that I could keep up with some people that I thought of as pros in their areas, and I learned that I am apparently a person who is fun to work with.

I learned that I'm reasonably good with first impression guesses since I pegged a couple people as bad workers the first day I met them and as the week went on I was definitely correct.

I got to talk to the head of CFA corporate HR team like he was an equal and had him give me solid advice.

I had people who had been doing this for years say that they enjoyed working with me, that I did well, and that they hoped to work with me again.

I'm going to call this trip an amazing success.

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

Band:  Pink Floyd
Genre:  Classic Rock

I really like this picture, that's why I used it.  I know it has absolutely nothing to do with the song, of the album that the song came from, but I couldn't find any picture of the band that I liked so this is what I went with.

I'm on my way home today, so when planning ahead I thought maybe a song about being strung out on heroin would fit how I was feeling.  I'll get back to you on that.

EVENING UPDATE:

So yesterday I actually got called and told to go in 3 hours late, so I went out and bought a right to commemorate my trip.  I like it.

Just got home an hour ago though, which is why I am sharing this so late.  Catch ya tomorrow!

Snoop Dogg - Gin And Juice

Artist:  Snoop Dogg
Genre:  Rap
Language:  Some

Day 6.............

I know I just posted a cover of this song a little bit ago, but I thought I should post the original since some of you might not have heard it before.

I really like Snoop's stuff, I'm just not as familiar with his material as I would like to be.  I'll be familiar eventually though, so I suppose that's a goal to shoot for, eh?

1:30 AM UPDATE:

Hey hey, day 5's close was just as great as day 4's!  I'm loving this job so much, I honestly wish I could do it more often.  Maybe I'll make that into a goal, do these more than just this once, eh?

Friday, January 15, 2016

The Offspring - Why Don't You Get A Job

Band:  The Offspring
Genre:  Punk Rock
Language:  Some

Some fun pick me up music for day 5 of this.  It's a pretty intense time, not gonna lie.  I love it though, this experience is something that I'm gonna remember for a really long time.  I feel like I'm finally getting somewhere in my job, ya know?

I love this song though, it's a fun dumb tune that has a message to people in one sided relationships, ya know?

2 AM UPDATE:

Dude.  Just worked a 15 hour shift and it was the freaking bomb.

I taught some people how to do things, I made a crap ton of food, and I learned how to close again which is something that I haven't done in something like a year plus.

I honestly am really happy with how this has gone, so I hope you'll bear with me for the next couple days of this.  I'm off to get a few hours of sleep before I need to wake up for work tomorrow, but you guys hang tight, ok?

Thursday, January 14, 2016

Attila - Shots For The Boys

Band:  Attila
Genre:  Deathcore, Partycore
Language:  Strong

You know what the world needs?  Hollywood Undead, but in a Deathcore format.

I honestly can say this may be one of the most offensive bands I've found to date.  They are really crude, their music is generally not too great, and I am finding myself weirdly attracted to them.

This is day 4 of the opening.

AFTERNOON MORNING UPDATE:

So crappy song aside, this is the day that things start!  The update from today will go up on tomorrows post and vise versa since I'm not getting out of work till like, 1 am.  With this in mind I thought it might be easier if I just updated now rather than try to operate this site when I'm on my phone, ya know?

I'm gonna be honest, the only thing I regret about this is that I had an energy drink again.  I haven't had any since September 9th, but for this I kinda needed them.  I will go back to not having any when I come back home though, so that's good.

Have a good day everybody!

Foo Fighters - Everlong

Band:  Foo Fighters
Genre:  Rock

When I started listening to these guys last week I asked my brother why, since I had never set out to hear them, did I feel like I knew all of their songs?  His answer was because they are very generic radio rock and that I have heard them that way.

He understated that.  They don't just sound like generic radio rock, they are radio rock.  I have heard so many of their songs that I never knew were them it's crazy.  I'm impressed honestly.

Side note, this is day 3 of my Grand Opening, we're officially opening the store to the public tomorrow, it's been all training up till this point.

AFTERNOON EDIT:

Yeah, so I'm about to head in for this evening.  I have hardly interacted with the employees as of right now actually, I've been all with the chicken thawing.  We had a guy who transferred in from a different and already knows the system so I didn't really teach yet.  Today I'm supposed to be in charge of "cooked food handling" so we'll see how it plays out.  Tomorrow is the big day though, 10am till 12 am approximately.  #Excitement

Thirty Seconds to Mars - The Kill

Band:  Thirty Seconds To Mars
Genre:  Alternative Rock

Hey, this is day 2 of my times down in South Carolina, so we'll see how this goes, eh?  I wrote all of these ahead of time so that I wouldn't fall behind in posting because of sheer exhaustion, but I'm gonna try to update some stuff from time to time anyway.

I never knew who did this song until some time last week, so I decided to post it so I will remember that they exist in the future.  It's a method that works sometimes, so here's hoping it happens again, eh?

AFTERNOON UPDATE:

Here's day 2.  I'm updating now cause it just makes more sense, ya know?  I'm gonna be the cow tonight at the dedication dinner and I'm honestly super stoked about that.  Then tomorrow I'm gonna be working a longer shift of actually doing stuff.  Thursday is the killer though.  Thursday through Saturday I'm working 40 hours.  Just on those days.  Actually since I'm closing it might be more, but still.  It's gonna be rough, but I'm really really excited to be a part of this.

Joe Satriani - The Phone Call

Artist:  Joe Satriani
Genre:  Blues Rock

Day 1 of having traveled to another state to train people how to do their jobs.  Hey hey!  I'll give out an update in the evening/afternoon again like with yesterday's post.

I used to listen to this guy a lot and I can't quite remember why I stopped.  He's a really solid guitarist that plays notes like a machine.  Not as crazy as John Petrucci, but straight up crazy nonetheless.

I really love this song though, when I first heard it the fact that he was using an effect on his voice it blew my mind.  I'm not sure why it blew my mind so much, but it was probably because I was 14 at the time.

AFTERNOON UPDATE:

Well here's day 1 finished.  Worked an extra hour, climbed a ladder to the roof, and continue to be terrified.  You know what though?  This is a lot of fun.  My roommate is pretty cool, so far my coworkers seem cool, and the owner doesn't seem too bad either.

Mortal Treason - Sunrise Over A Sea Of Blood

Band:  Mortal Treason
Genre:  Deathcore

I apologize that I'm on a trend right now, I've got some really sweet things happening that have taken up a lot of my time.  These things are as follows.

So the reason for the trend is that I literally planned about the next 2 weeks of posts on 1 or 2 days rather than spread out because, today, I'm going to South Carolina for a work thing.

I am going down to Killian's Crossing to open a Chick-fil-a.  I get to train people on a crap on of stuff because I'm just special that way.  Also because my manager is a pretty sweet person.

I'm mildly terrified of this, but I'm sure it'll go ok, right?

Song wise this is a band that I was introduced to back when I first started listening to Metal.  I hated them then, but I kinda dig it now that I've expanded my musical horizons.

EVENING UPDATE

Hey guys, I just thought this would be the easiest way to get people's attention.  I'm gonna be adding a thing at the end of the night this week, or early in the morning since I'm gonna be working from 11am till possible 1 am this week.  I just wanted to say I landed fine and for the first couple days I'm gonna have a load of free time to update this stuff.  That's a bit of a relief honestly, but we'll see what ends up happening Thursday through Saturday when I have my long shifts.

The Showdown - Temptation Come My Way

Band:  The Showdown
Genre:  Southern Metal

As we continue on a list of bands I like and some that I forgot about, we shall touch on The Showdown.  These guys had some really solid potential back in the day, but they broke up.  I'm really bummed, but even on the last album they weren't able to get the full band together.  Half of the recording artists were Demon Hunter's current lineup because they were't able to get their own drummer or guitarist to commit.

I hold out hopes that they'll come back sometime because their Facebook page was active again recent;y, but who knows.

Dethklok - I Ejaculate Fire

Band:  Dethklok
Genre:  Death Metal
Language:  Some, Strong

Dethklok is a band that a lot of Metal fans have a love hate relationship with.  We love them because the show makes a lot of great Metal related jokes, but we also can hate them because it makes a lot of people who usually would hate Metal like it a little.  But as a joke.  As everybody know there can be no jokes made about Metal.  It's like, super serious.

Like this song.  There is no joking here.  Very serious business.

Demon Hunter - Just Breathe

Band:  Demon Hunter feat. Christian Alvestam
Genre:  Metalcore

I give you, once again, my favorite band to hear.  I feel like some of my favorite stuff I almost never post because I'm afraid of people not liking it.

This song though, this is such a good song.  I feel like the only thing that makes Demon Hunter better for me is when they bring other people in to add to their songs.  Unfortunately they don't tend to do that too often so I don't get songs like this.  Actually thinking of it, this album probably has the most guest appearances of all of their albums.

Wednesday, January 6, 2016

Motörhead - Iron Fist

Band:  Motörhead (Motorhead)
Genre:  Speed Metal

So as I mentioned on my last Motorhead post, we're gonna have a little more of them than usual this month.  Once a week for the month of January to be precise for those of you that want specifics.

I think this is 7 days after the last one at least, I'm not 100% sure cause I feel like it might be a little late.  Eh, I don't actually care that much though.

This song sound so much like the song Ace Of Spades it's not even funny, but it is still a solid song by itself so I feel you might enjoy it.  It's fast, it's hard, and if you like the band you'll like this.

Project 86 - The Butcher

Band:  Project 86
Genre:  Post Hardcore

This is a very powerful sounding song.  The intro riff just starts out in a very raw way, then it picks up with a little more stuff starting to enter into the scene, then straight up punches you in the face with the vocal intro.

One thing that I love about music is when it manages to get some dynamics working.  This song is a little flat dynamically, but what it lacks for in rise and fall in makes up for in power.  Sometimes you don't need the dynamics that I love, sometimes you just need hit in the face with music.  This song hits me in the face.

Slipknot - Custer

Band:  Slipknot
Genre:  Nu-Metal
Language:  Strong

You may remember this from when I reviewed this album, but since that was an album review I thought it would be cool to remind people about it.

This is a very high energy song that is absolutely insane to see people go crazy to, so if you like watching concert videos I'd advise checking it out here.

Hollywood Undead - Up In Smoke

Band:  Hollywood Undead
Genre:  Rap Rock
Language:  Strong

One of the things that I love about this band is that they are total fluff music that I can put on and just have in the background.  The lifestyle they seem to promote isn't anything I live like, but their music is a lot of fun to sing along with.

Honestly I just love the beat of this song and the opening line.  "Oh shit damn had a couple too many" is one of the greatest lyrical pieces I've ever heard.

Drake - 0 To 100 / The Catch Up

Artist:  Drake
Genre:  Rap
Language:  Strong

I don't know why I haven't posted more of Drake yet, I was really into his stuff for quite a bit and I was really trying not to post too much of his stuff.

I hope you like this song though, I like it a lot.  Not as much as I like Energy, but since I already posted that I suppose I can't mention that again, haha.

Family Force 5 - This Is My Year

Band:  Family Force 5 feat Matoma
Genre:  Pop

I figured a good way to start the year is on a positive note, so here's a song devoted to taking the year.  At least, that's what I'm gonna interpret it as.

I hope you all had a great 2015, but this is a time for new things.  Yeah, everybody says stuff like that all the time, but this year I actually plan to do something about it.
